If Harry Potter is for not for grown ups, then kids today understand a great many adult concepts that one would not expect them to.
I have read the books about 4 times through (i'm nearly 21), My 32 year old sister recommended them to me after hearing the first one read to her son at school (this was about 3 months before the 4th book came out) and my 53 year old mother went out and bought the first one and gave it to me with raving reviews. My 26 year old sister and 35 year old brother also love it and i have gotten a great many friends into them as well. I've seen the movie 4 times (3 times within 2 weeks).
I am actually reading 'A Series of Unfortunate Events', based on 3 children who's parents are killed and house burnt down and are being passed from one nutty relative to another and everything that happens to them is bad. It's younger than Harry Potter but i'm really enjoying them.
