Technicolor Ferguson flags new group DVD

THOSE bad boys of Australian comedy, the Doug Anthony All Stars, plan to reunite – in voice at least.

Tim Ferguson, who is in Adelaide to prepare for dual roles in the musical Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, said yesterday the former trio intended to release a DVD of its live performances.

They were a staple of the comedy circuits here and in the UK during the late '80s and early '90s.

"Some kind of DVD will come out, if only because we'd like to do the commentary track – and point out each other's imperfections," Ferguson said.

The only stalling point was which of the three – Ferguson, Strictly Dancing host Paul McDermott or ABC comedy boss Richard Fidler – would take responsibility for the project.

The group's stage costumes, which had the dubious distinction of never being cleaned because of the oil paintings on their jackets, have been donated to the Performing Arts Museum in Melbourne.

"The ladies who were working on them apparently had to cover them in baby powder because they stank so badly. They'd be eating themselves alive now with the bacteria," Ferguson said.

He will play both the Pharaoh and the evil Potiphar in Joseph, which will be staged at Her Majesty's Theatre, Grote St, city, from January 14-22.
