I remember that the topic was raised in *thinks* 2000. A few of us wound up staying together, but it was a bit chaotically planned. I think I tried again in 2001, but nothing came of it, and I wound up in an apartment by myself for most of the month *g*. Last comfest I had four people staying with me at various stages, which helped immensely in the costs. This coming comfest I'm sort of expecting to have at least five people staying at various times.

The thing is, I know all the people I've invited to stay with me this time. I've met them all and I know I'm not going to have trouble sharing close quarters with them. Apartment sharing can be odd if you don't know who you're with.

If you want to be cheap, there's always the backpacker's hostels...someone did suggest getting a dorm in one for MOSHers only one year, but I don't think that ever happened.

As far as I know, the apartment sharing thing I do is the cheapest way to do comfest, but there's only about four apartments in the whole city that can be rented for less than $150 a night, and I've stayed in two of them *giggles* One is now more expensive (but I'm staying there anyway *G*) and the other is, well, I wasn't thrilled with my stay there...(slowest lift in the world, no water pressure in the shower, tv kept turning itself off, the smoke alarm kept turning itself on, CD player didn't work, the chairs had been broken and glued back together so when someone leaned back on one they were nearly killed, and it had a terrible spiral staircase that wasn't fun to climb when drunk *g* SoS will back me up on all of this *g* although she did find me trying to climb the stairs and winding up crawling very funny *glares*).

I think it might be a bit late to plan something like that now...the other problem is timing...I don't think many people who come from interstate or a fair way out of Melbourne stay for the entire month, and if you want to share a place for a week, you have to make sure everyone can go for the same week.

I've tried planning this sort of thing a few times now, trust me, it isn't easy even when you're planning for friends *g* I'm half dreading the comfest guide coming out in March, I'll have to make another spreadsheet to work out what we're seeing when!

For a decent and not overly expensive hotel that's close to stuff, try the Victoria Hotel in Little Collins Street. Or there's the City Square Motel, on Swanston...I've stayed in both *larfs*

Cheapest option, of course, is to find a kind relative or friend and crash with them, but it's not an option for everyone *g*

Good luck with the planning *g*
