RADIO KARATE - MELBOURNE’S NEWEST TELEVISION COMEDY SHOW Shit… sorry, I just got a paper cut. But hey… on the up side Radio Karate, Melbourne’s newest comedy show is going to air on the 1st of October on Melbourne’s C31. Airing at 10.30pm and running for 6 episodes, the show is a clever mix of variety and sketch, without, however appearing to be a B Grade version of Rove Live. Drawing inspiration from shows such as D Generation’s The Late Show, The Micallef Programme, The Office and Big Train, the show features four up and coming performers, Andy Lee, Ryan Shelton, Hamish Blake and Duncan Campbell. The four over the past three years have gained notoriety in Melbourne through Comedy Festival shows, Raw Comedy, hosting the Friday night drive slot on SYN FM, writing and featuring on FOX FM’s Breakfast Show as well as featuring in other C31 shows. One of the stars Ryan Shelton, commented on show’s the light-hearted nature. “We know we can’t match the production values or star power of the commercial stations, so we’ve tried to do something different, and hopefully entertaining” As a result the show is not just another medium for guests to sell their new CD/cooking book/Ab-Flexer/men’s fragrance. “At the end of the day we’re about taking the piss I guess,” Ryan concludes, “we don’t take ourselves too seriously, I mean the name of the show Radio Karate, I still don’t know what is means!” The producers of Radio Karate manage to squeeze all the sketch comedy, guest interviews and studio tomfoolery in to a dynamic half hour that is filmed in front of a live studio audience. “I think the live audience is crucial to the fun atmosphere of the show” says producer Tim Bartley “it also helps that we get the crowd high on Red Bull beforehand”. Radio Karate will stand out on C31 as show that packs content and production values with a cast that we will surely see on our televisions in the future, and not just hosting Fish TV. Yes, it's true, I was a tool for not loging out, however my comments still stand. Radio Karate is a half decent show. However sadly, without a network and a team of highly paid spin doctors behind you, it very hard to get people to tune in. SO, as a result you end up doind sad things like making slightly contrived coments on sites like these. But hey, any publicity is good publicity. Anyway if you live in melbourne tune in, and if you still dont like it, well email me and tell me why. 10:30 wednesday nights C31 | ||
