Sorry that was me as the previous Guest. Whether I work for them or not, should not detract from the fact that Sydney is trying to promote its own comedy festival, be it on whatever scale, and Sydney siders should support it.

to simply dismiss the festival before the guide has come out is ridiculous. From what I've heard, Big Laugh is to be applauded for its diversity of shows this year... it includes clowning, plays, sketch, stand-up, musical... and for a small festival to acheive this range in such a short span of 4 years is fantastic. It supports big names as well as newcomers, and advertises each accordingly. It at least works on a more level playing field than the larger Melbourne comfest which means that smaller acts have to compete against huge acts with huge marketing budgets. Then on top of that, every year the festival grows - almost double its size from the previous festival. Sounds like a success and a great festival to me without even knowing whats on. I've been every year so far and I've never walked away disappointed. Its a friendly atmosphere, and while it might not have 200 shows nor a crowd of thousands, I've always loved the shows, the theatres and also made some great friends there.

Just a couple more things... no-one should slag off a festival without even attending it. Give it a go. And as for Sydney trying to sustain a comedy festival, I think its very possible. Melbourne has its festival, but the venues throughout the rest of the year suffer. Sydney at least has created a large comedy audience that is sustainable throughout the year in its 30+ venues. To make a good festival, you just need to give the locals something they havent seen or arent likely to see at the pubs. What also needs to remembered is that a festival needs to be built over a number of years, not throw huge amounts of money into it and giving it a go for only one year, which is what has happened in the past. Parramatta has taken the right approach by committing itself in a more long term way... its building an audience and its working.

and also don't be discouraged by the fact that the police are currently searching for a murder weapon and possibly the body of a drug lord in parramatta river. hehehehe and newt, the reason people are telling you to admit to being part of the big laugh because in the photo there are people from your original show (is it chris? i can never remember) and seeing as most of us still haven't had the pleasure of meeting you, it's a bit hard to work out which one u are/aren't. that's all.

I don't know whether anyone's mentioned this, but I believe that 'Shock of the New' are doing a cross-promotion with the new 'best-of-revue' sketch comedy show ... we're planning to do a 2-for-cheaper deal or somesuch. Tell everyone you know ...

I have to say, the line up doesn't really impress me all that much. I may only be going to two or three of the shows, if that. Bit dissapointed with that really...but ah well.
