I know he's not generally liked here, but I like him. Not enough to listen to morning radio, or watch the Glasshouse every week, but I went to his show at the Comedy Festival and enjoyed it. 'Course, he doesn't hold a candle to say, Charlie Pickering. Or Tripod. Mmmmm. Tripod.

I quite like him on The Glass House and when he's on The Fat/110% Tony Squires.. But otherwise I don't really see him much. Many of the people who dislike him are people who see him more often than that and thus see him repeat quite a bit of material - something he's notorious for.

most of us can't stand him now he's gone from grungy political satire person to "i'm so pretty look at me i have my own tv show and all the girls want me cause i'm famous". his shows are no longer so much topical as how good he is. extract from my site: Quote:

hey i'm a bit biased because i am a massive fan of his so you can take this with a grain of salt, but don't you think it is YOU who are actually judging him by the way HE looks, not the other way around. like if somebody looks a certain way, suddenly they don't have something valid to say? anyway, like i said, i'm biased because behind cameron bruce he is my favourite comedian, and he is always nice to me when i ring the jays with my stupid questions so... ps. i didn't see the show 'cos sadly i'm based in adelaide these days, but the age called his comedy festival show the best oz show in the festival and said it was really political.

comedy is not about looks, its about being funny. i find him arrogant and up himself. but speak to other disgruntled fans and u will see that i am not alone in this notion.

I like him on The Glasshouse, and he was funny on the gala, but a bit hyper (not that that's a bad thing, he was just speaking really fast). I find him funny on Triple J but I hardly listen because: a. I'm not up early enough most days b. I don't like the music they play I haven't seen him live though, and I haven't seen enough of him to know whether he's arrogant and repetitive.

I first saw the guy in the flesh at this years breakfast show live in the Melbourne Town Hall. He seemed like an alright guy to his fans, nothing special though. He could've been a little bit more polite towards the autograph-wanters, but I just put his distant behaviour down to the sickness he was feeling from all that horrible pie. I actually talked to him two days later before his show, and asked how he was feeling. He said it was the worst he's ever felt, so I gave him my sympathy. He's the first person ever to ask my name in the autograph process so he could write it down, so gotta give him points for that. I know he's changed quite a bit from his early days, but I cant really comment on that 'cos I've only gotten into his stuff in the last year or so. And yeah, I know half the moshers here don't have that much respect for him 'cos of the infamous repetition of material, but I can look past that and see this funny hypo dude who loves Buffy and has a cat. I guess I can relate ^_^

And from what I have heard, he wants to improve on himself - thus the Mondays at the comedy store. But I like to mock Wil - because it is easy to. Otherwise his comedy talents are still there.

I'm still a Wil fan despite his faults. I've been through a number of phases, the initial indifference when my sister first started liking his stuff, then slight interest evolving to great interest and then massive fandom bordering on teenybopper. Then I arrived here and backed off the obsessiveness a bit and learnt about all the other great comedic talent there was and still is out there. Then I went through a phase last year when I was almost a reformed wilaholic. Now Louis and the wilaholics anonymous board has brought me back to the wilaholic level. As for my opinion of his in the flesh work... yes, he reuses material, but if you immerse yourself in all his stuff (i.e. GH shows and tapings, JJJ Brekkie, articles, previous standup shows etc) like I do it isn't surprising that you hear some of the stuff often. As for his behaviour, well the two times I've actually spoken to him he's been wonderfully friendly, and I haven't personally seen anything that makes me doubt he's a great person.
