Personally I deeply admire anyone who takes the step and enters Raw comedy, mainly because I would loooove to do stand up but get serious stage fright (and I'm not funny either). write key words (like the next topic you talk about, eg sex) on your hand (on your palm, not in an obvious place) and just take a glance every now and then.

| MOSH Regular | Most things come with practice, I can't even remember back when I started (almost 2 years ago!) but I'll attempt to answer for ya. [quote:post_uid0]what to do if u forget ur material?[/quote:post_uid0] improvise. I won't tell you exactly what I do, because I have a technique kind of thing because I was forgetting material all the time. [quote:post_uid0]how to act whhile on stage?[/quote:post_uid0] depends, do you want to get up as yourself or portray some sort of character? Everyone has their own style, you kind of have to work out what suits you best. Don't do anything you're not comfortable doing. My gig last week I was saying things I wasn't so sure about, but it turned out being the least nervous I've ever been on stage. Sure I was nervous at times before I got up there, but once I was up I was fine. Even if I didn't get the response I was hoping for in some places. [quote:post_uid0]How you can test your materail out?[/quote:post_uid0] test it out on someone you trust will give you honest feedback. Usually close friends & family will try and support you and say it's good when it's really not. You could always ask one of the resident mosh comics to help with advice for your material once it's written. I've had help from Pautiric with my material - she doesn't write for me, but she lets me know if she thinks something is funny or not, and suggests ways of changing it. I'd be happy to offer advice on material if I'm not too busy, though I suspect someone might try to flame me for it ;) but given that I'm guessing you'd be competing against FR, don't go to her for advice cos she might just say your material is good if it's crap or vice versa just cos she'll wanna beat ya ;) I hope that's okay hehe. Oh yeah, and I registered for next year's Raw already too *bg* | ||

I was in the same heat as katisha this year and gave her nothing but compliments because her material was fantastic. Just because i'm also competing doesn't mean i'll tell someone their stuff is crap. But if thats something *you'd* do to win comedychick...*shrugs* Thats on your shoulders.

If you have a bit of a nerve attack and fuck up a line you could end up dying in a big way if you can't mentally move on to the next bit until you've gone through all the fucked up bit. If you've written it all down and learn it word for word you'll also have more of a problem picking it back up if you get interrupted (heckled, someone drops something, etc). If you do go for the parrot technique, learn it VERY well, and possibly practice stopping in the middle and saying a few things to someone else, then resume. *shrugs* Oh yeah, another tip.. Be funny! *smirks and runs off*

Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 4 | I've always found that if you write something out by hand, read it over and over and make a tape of youself doing it, and listen to that over and over, you should have it down solid. Well that's what I do when I try to remember whole debates. And when you get up infront of a group of people, yes they are going to judge you, but you should never think that way. Always stay calm, cool and collected and talk to the audience as if they were close friends. Well those are my thoughts anyway...

| MOSH Regular | My plan for stage fright is to think they are my best friends and im just having a one way conversation with them (like i usually do with them anyway). i have a couple of good friends going who already know my material and im going to scatter them around the room so if i look at someone that freaks me out, i can look back at them and regain confidence. Oh and im going to have a couple of drinks before i go on stage. it works when i sing | ||
