Have been to a couple of shows there in the past few days: Mark Trevorrow, Tim Freedman and Vika & Linda. It's a great venue!

Were they good shows? Couldn’t go to Mark Trevorrow cos I was working *mutters obscenities* and by the time I decided I wanted to see Tim Freedman it was sold out! Well at least I have the extended season to look forward to, sounds like a corker!

Mark was good: with special guest appearances from Ma & Pa Trevorrow! I also really liked Tim Freedman. You must have been unlucky with his shows. My mate and I already had tickets for the Saturday show. I then found myself at a loose end at about 8.45pm on the Friday night and lobbed along to the Spiegeltent box office on the off chance of a ticket. Got one without any trouble at all!

I agree that the extended season sounds good. I have also heard rumours of a couple of shows that don't appear in the Spiegeltent advertising (as yet). I'll have to wait for the full programme to be released in a few days before I decide if another trip to Melbourne is warranted!

I went to Micheline van Hautem & Mich en Scène - "Songs of Jacques Brel (Belgium via NY)" on Thursday night. I know I've left this too late for my fellow Melbournites (their season finished on the 23rd), but they were awesome, and The Famous Spiegeltent was the perfect venue. Mich en Scène obviously love playing Brel, and Micheline's voice is just beautiful.

Even if you don't know of Jacques Brel, you probably know some of his music from English translations of his songs made popular by more familiar artists (in particular, the English versions of "Ne Me Quitte Pas" and "Le Moribond" have been covered many times):
  • "Ne Me Quitte Pas" ("If You Go away", Nana Mouskouri - Nana's Book of Songs)
  • "Le Moribond" ("Seasons in the Sun", Nana Mouskouri - Nana's Book of Songs)
  • "Fils De..." ("Sons Of...", DAAS - Blue)
  • "Le Bourgeois" ("The Middle Class", DAAS - Live at the National Theatre)
  • "Amsterdam" ("Amsterdam", David Bowie - Pin Ups [re-release])
If you're a fan of Belgian/French Caberet (who isn't? ) and you're in the Sydney area, go and see Micheline van Hautem & Mich en Scène from 27th to 30th October at Kabarett Voltaire @ The Seymour Theatre Centre - details here.

Forget it Ming, Dale's with me!
