Cracker Comedy programme launched

I've just noticed the new Cracker Comedy Festival website has just been launched, amazingly on the same day as the programme for the Big Laugh festival has been officially announced (www.biglaughcomedyfestival.com.au).

Cracker Comedy (www.crackercomedy.com.au) will include local acts such as Gud, Charlie Pickering and Flacco & Sandman, and a bunch of internationals including Brad Garrett, Dough Stanhope, Ross Noble, Danny Bhoy and Steven Wright.

Quite an eclectic lineup in the range of Newtown venues and the Comedy Store, and I'm keen to check out a few things. Should be very interesting though to see both festivals trying to pull punters at the same time as each other with a number of acts playing both. I personally don't think Sydney will quite know what to do with this huge influx of comedy shows all of a sudden, possibly to the detriment of smaller local shows on both lineups.

I just hope that both can co-exist rather than cancel each other out for future events.

There are a few things I'd like to see, too. Although I've noticed there seems to be a scheduling conflict between Charlie Pickering and GUD. They're apparently playing the same venue (@Newtown) at the same time on the same days (or at least three days). Granted, there are two levels at @Newtown but Level 1 is supposed to be the Cracker Club. It'll be interesting to see which act gets bumped.

there's good stuff on at both festivals, but an extra large amount of trash at both as well. put the good stuff from both together, though, and you've got a hybrid super-fest right there.

it has to be said, it is a stupid idea going head to head - considering that there's venues from both competing festivals literally walking distance from each other, anticipate a lot of confused people.

ps. that cracker site is the ugliest thing I've ever seen

This is stupid having two festivals compete for same festival audience and publicity at the exact same time.

why not just rename it "The Cracker big laugh comedy festival". How can the same acts be doing the 2 festivals..why, that's just crazy talk.

or "The Big Cracker Comedy Laugh Festival".

But hey, the Big Laugh has Craig McLachlan!!! C'mon, how many times have we each laughed at Craig!
Granted, we never paid thirty seven bucks to laugh at Craig before ...

If you tell a joke in the forest, but nobody laughs, was it a joke?

Is anyone else disturbed by the fact that in the promo photo of GUD, Cameron seems to be trying to look more like Mick?

Just looked at the line-up for "Jesus Presents..." damn, that's good. Pity I can't afford another trip to Sydders until work send me (September).

Whats dumb is that Enmore has publicly said they are not doing Cracker next year, saying something to the effect of sydney not being big enough for a comedy festival, in an brag or SMH article late last year.

So they're putting in all this money, splitting the audience and could potentially kill both festivals. Atleast the Big Laugh is there to stay and has steadily been building over 4 years.

Artists doing both is also stupid.

This all stems from the Big Laugh orignally having the enmore as a venue, then the deal falling sour. Big Laugh's got the Goodies and cranky pants were bought by the dozen.

Ummmm... I didn't start this thread to start a fight, so lets not compare whose festival is better. I see it that comedy fans will be the winners out of this cause Sydney needs a festival.

However I just feel that from a punters point of view, having nothing for so many years in the city of Sydney and then all of a sudden having two is going shock and confuse the shit out of them.

Lets just continue this for the opportunity to make show announcements and arrangements for both festivals.

I agree, let all the business minded fools argue behind the scenes. competition is the backbone of innovation.

so, whatever the outcome, comedy will be the real winner. hhahaha.

Yes. How dare they try and earn a living!

If there's only enough interest to support one festival then only one festival will come out the other side - most likely the one who gets the better acts and venues.

In any case, it's mostly bad for the organisers - the comics will still get gigs and the punters will still get comedy.

I think a list of disclosures of interest from this thread would be simply fascinating.

(And I expect everyone complaining about competition still uses Telstra for their phones? And internet? ...)
