Spicks & Specks, ABC, 8.30pm

The arrival of this musical-variety quiz-show suggests the ABC is desperately hunting for another Good News Week. The formats are eerily similar: a wise-cracking host overseeing two teams of three, none of whom cares two figs about the result.

Tonight, host Adam Hills (one of the few to emerge with any dignity from this year's shambolic Logies) is joined by Todd McKenney, Greedy Smith, Denise Scott and Hamish Blake. Tasks include one contestant singing a classic using gobbledygook lyrics while teammates try to identify the song. They also tackle one of life's unsolvable dilemmas: which is worse - Barbie Girl by Aqua or Ricky Martin's She Bangs?

Blame it on the rapid pace and choppy editing, but the fun doesn't quite translate to the viewer at home. If the ABC wants to replicate Good News Week's success, it should go the whole hog and switch this to Friday or Saturday when the viewers are just as carefree as the contestants.

Drunk Midget to even Drunker Chick - Have you ever had anyone go up on you before?

Son: Is there anything we can do to get Buffy back?
Mom: Well, we could join together in prayer.
Son: Uh huh. Is there anything useful we can do?
Mom: No.

I reckon. Where did the review come from?

They're not "gobbledegook lyrics". They're actually quite educational. I liked the Windows user manual.

Last nights lesbian novel was quite entertaining too! Denise Scott is great.

i have some kind of concept of what im doing. hands go here, feet go there, mouth goes here, this lines up with that, insertion, extraction, release, repeat if required/requested. Good? Good.

Good to see Posty's book got a plug (it is after all published by ABC Books!).

Am I alone in not being able to identify ANY of Scotty's songs during Substitute?

I finally watched this show after friends had been telling me about it for weeks. I really enjoyed it!

My mum is actually quite good at guessing substitution, whereas I'm pretty useless!

I liked Todd's response to people asking "Why did you only give Nikki Webster 1/10?"
"Because I didn't have a zero!" Hehe, harsh, but funny!

Now I just have to remember to tape this every Wednesday!

I think Greedy was right, it is a pretty distracting text

I had no hope in identifying any of Scott's songs. She was hopeless, but she gave it a go like the champion she is.

I think I remember seeing something about that in the TV Week, yes....but I think they might be doing a "best of" as well.

How bloody hilarous was Scod last night when he did a victory lap with his shirt over his head
