Peter Combe Newspaper Mama Revisited National Tour! “It’s a scene reminiscent of a Wolfmother concert, except that the song that sends the crowd into a frenzy is far from your standard guitar rock” The Age In the mid-80s, Peter Combe was King of the Kids, playing his hits including “Spaghetti Bolognaise” and “Mr Clicketty Cane” at sold out shows in schools and concert halls across Australia and the UK. In 2007, he’s back – playing to the same kids who loved him way back when and who are now all grown up and in their 20s. Peter Combe will be hitting the road for a national tour covering Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Adelaide, Hobart, Brisbane, Perth and regional centres throughout October and November. “When I first saw an audience of 18-27 year olds form a mosh pit and crowd surf to Newspaper Mama and Wash Your Face in Orange Juice - songs they learnt when they were five – at a concert of mine, I thought, this is a bit weird,” says Peter. “Now I think it's not weird at all and I'm thrilled that they still love singing the songs - it's really lovely.” Peter Combe’s career has spanned more than 30 years – starting with a six-year stint presenting Music Time for BBC Television in London in 1977. But it was the Australian release of his album Toffee Apple in 1987 and the first ever music video clip made for kids for the title track that propelled him to become Australia’s first children’s “popstar”. With more than 850,000 album and video sales and 3 ARIA Awards (for Best Children’s Album) under his belt, Peter’s songs are as relevant today, as always. His unique approach to writing children's music aims to extend, surprise and inspire the audience. Peter performed a sold-out warm-up show at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne in June and the 800-strong crowd sang along to every word of his hits: Newspaper Mama, Toffee Apple, Spaghetti Bolognaise, Juicy Juicy Green Grass. Fans wore homemade newspaper hats and had toffee apples painted on their faces, to capture the nostalgia of the night. Punters queued for more than an hour afterwards to meet Peter and get him to sign their childhood vinyl albums. Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 3 | hehe I ALWAYS as a kid wanted to see him in concert as a young kid. And since the youngest sibling is 6yrs younger than me, we were still singing along to his songs on car trips when i was like 13yrs old lol. My revival of his songs came this year when at the lifeline bookfest, i found a cassette of his, and I was like OMG look angela, do you remember Peter Combes? hehe and I bought it! Then took it home and put it on my old walkman and loved it! Couldnt remember all the songs, but it was that song that goes id love to sing a classical song or two at the opera house.......i lov the rhythm or whateever of that song, coz you just sway along to it hehe. Then I went looking for stuff on youtube and Itunes coz i wanted to listen to his other songs and stuff, and found a few on itunes and a few clips on youtube (which I will put up in a tick) and I was like OMG. There is one clip of a gig he did last year at Adelaide Uni's O'Ball and everyones singing along going nuts with Mr Clickety Cane, and then he finishes and goes you used to sing that when you were 5!!!! How much does that send a shiver down your spine lol.!!!! Its going to be sooooo cool to see him, and yet so strange, particularly seeing a kids entertainer in a nightclub haha. Newspaper Mama And then from thre you can see some other clips. Last edited by rozymisty; 30-09-2007 at 12:15 PM. | ||

| MOSH Regular | I know that these concerts are aimed at older fans (+20) who listened to his music as kids but dose anyone know what age limit they have if any? It's just my little sister is desperate to see one of the shows and she's only 16 (17 in December), and I was wondering if she might be seen as too young. Any information would be greatly appreciated. ![]() | ||

| MOSH Elite | i think it would depend mainly on the venue if they would allow over 18's. we went to the metro and it was over 18's so the age was roughly from 18 - 40. but it was mainly people mid to late 20's and up. i even saw grandmas there rocking out | ||
