"It's the news. We think."

Looks like an Aus Daily Show, but done Micallef-style. Should be awesome. Wednesday nights 10pm on SBS, from 10 October.

Also on the show are Gary McCaffrie and Michael Ward, plus Matt Cameron, Doug MacLeod, Dave O'Neill, Tony Moclair and Richard Marsland.

Looks like it will be more like The Colbert Report, actually. But I don't think Micallef has the talent to pull it off as well as Colbert does.
Find out in a week I guess, thanks.

If he's half as good as Colbert he'll still be awesome. And it's on SBS so we know it (probably) won't get cancelled after 3 episodes. Whoo hoo!

... oh dear.

And I hope Josh Lawson is involved. He's been absolutely brilliant on Thank God You're Here.

Did anyone remember to watch this? If you missed the show and would like to watch, it's available on the SBS website for free for the next 7 days. Clicky for lazies!

My mini-review? It's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" if Jon played it straight.
I'm very much not a fan of Micallef but I still had a chortle at some stuff in the episode. It's a little disjointed but I guess they probably filmed some parts a while ago and interspersed it with newer things, rather than having all the in-studio stuff done in one sitting. For example, they had two Sport segments, which was a bit odd. Also when Shaun was done interviewing one person it cut to another shot of him where you ought to have been able to see the interviewee but they were clearly gone.

I'll watch it again next week, though, so long as I remember.

I assumed that having two segments was making fun of the preoccupation with sport in this country and in our news. I could be reading my own biases into that though...

Mmm, I thought of that, but there didn't seem to be any subtle references to indicate that's what it was. If that's what they were aiming for I think it would've gone over most people's heads.

i saw most of it, even with really bad sbs reception. some things i thought were pretty funny, in particular, micallef interviewing the guy who climbed mount everest - micallef just seemed to slide more into that role (probably due to playing a similar character on his ABC show). some of the news script was pretty weak, but maybe that'll improve also as the show goes on.

I thought it was really average, only slighty better than what Mick Molloy gave us a few months ago. I kinda had high expectations for the show and it fell well below what I was expecting. Given it was the first show I'll give it another shot and hope that it can improve. I love Shaun but he really needs to slow down when reading the autocue, he was rushing through everything.

I thought the show overall was good. The Christopher Walken-as-news-reporter skit was shit, but other stuff was great like the Hillary interview and the ACTU interview. Gold.

I agree with nahemah that all the sports stuff was intentionally bagging out sports reporters, especially due to the shithouse joke about Warne that Ed Kavalee put in at the end of the last sports segment.

I also loved the vox pops at the end. Looking forward to seeing this show grow (or seeing it collapse completely, in part due to its irritating navel-gazing-"ha we're making fun of the format"-too-clever-by-half stuff).

Point of order, Mister Speaker.

Episode 2 is up on the SBS site at the moment for people who, like me, completely forgot about it being on. Oops!

Second ep was a significant improvement over the first I thought. The only really disjointed cut that I noticed this time was the one Micallef deliberately pointed out...
