I think it's more the fact that it's not really the kind of show that traditional theater goers want to see. The music is good, and I'm not just saying that Paul is good, the actual songs are good to listen to.

FROM JACOBSEN ENTERTAINMENT

Unfortunately, what you have heard is correct. The Witches of Eastwick is
closing in Melbourne with the rest of the season being postponed, for the
foreseeable future. The final performance in Melbourne is Saturday 16
November.

Kind Regards.

nah Myth, i see it that it's overstayed its welcome. there were sell out shows and that early in the season werent there? and how many people really go to see repeat performances of the same production. hasnt it been running for like a couple of months now?

People still go and see Rocky Horror. In character!
Star Wars sold millions of tickets when it was first screened, and then sold millions more when it was repeated ~20 years later. Plus video sales.

If it's good enough, people will see it multiple times.

If it's not good enough, people won't go back, and the people who go won't tell their friends to go, so ticket sales will slump.

I'm not saying some people don't enjoy it, but obviously something has gone wrong...

umm... could it just be that everyone who wants to see it in Melbourne has seen it?

and Perhaps they should tour still, but keep the season shorter... I mean, even when we had 'CATS' in Canberra, it was still only here for 2 weeks... they had to extend it because of popularity...

Better to set a short season and extend if need be than just float around forever and end up performing to 25 people...

I have to say that i am disappointed though... It's not right to plan something like that and punnish everyone who can't get to Melbourne because it's not as popular as Phantom of The Opera and still a sell out 3 months later.

people don't have to pay $90 to go and see Rocky Horror or Star Wars, and lets just take a look at those examples

Rocky Horror - CULT!!!
Star Wars - CULT!!!

Yes Star Wars was big when it first started but so were a lot of things ET.

I admit that Witches isn't a the best musical ever, but it has to contend with Gilbert and Sullivan, I mean those guys rocked, (Yey 10 year anniversary of the Jon English and Simon Gallagher version, I am soo going to see that) But there is nothing wrong with witches.

My point was that the argument that people don't go and see things more than once doesn't hold any water. People do go see things more than once if they like them enough.

Rocky Horror and Star Wars were just two examples off the top of my head. Phantom, Cats and others are also good examples.
If the show is selling so badly in Melbourne, the only place it's likely to do any better is Sydney, and only because we have more people here.

Punish? So they're supposed to go on tour and risk losing money just so some fans can see the monkeyboy?

I'm going to go over here now...

I didn't mean it quite like that Myth...

Just basically that... well ticket sales were pretty good at first i thought...

Perhaps they should have just cut the season short and work from there... I'd rather still be able to get tickets and have it canceled due to lack of response than being told that because ticket sales were shit after 3 months in another city, they're chucking in.

I have no doubt that if they were just to do a small number of shows on their tour, they would sell out every night...

One has to keep in mind that Rocky Horror was a total flop at first... and remained that way for some time... It's cant be expected that this kind of production would reach that level over night... if at all... it can be hoped for... but not expected...

I feel like I'm making no sense here...

I was not going to say anything to the actual comment ... but don't give a shit about 'monkey boy' and whether he is in the production... I would like to see it because i'm a fan of the story... not because i have an obsession with Paul... As much as i like his work, i would still like to see it even if Andrew Daddo was the star.

I also have a love for theatre and musicals, and would like to have seen it for the theatrical quality, not for the person(s) in it.

I find that comment insulting.

That is all.

I'm a bit upset that WOE isn't coming to Adelaide. Alright it is time for me to admit it - I love musical theatre. RHPS, Shout, Grease anything with singing and a storyline. And frankly Adelaide needs more if we want to maintain our Arts image. I really wished it could have come here and it would probably get quite a good turn out from Adelaide as well because it's so small it dosn't get heaps of entertainment. *looks at her message*

I swear there is some sort of garbled logic in there!!!

I am very disappointed that it is not coming to Adelaide .........but since I have actually seen it, I can't complain too much

I agree with Pautiric though. They should have done a short season to start off and then came back if it was so popular.

Just wanted to bring attention to this news story http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/...308205472.html talking about whether there may be too many musicals around at the moment. Poor ticket sales may have nothing to do with the quality of the show.

Now back to lurking.
