This post is going to start out fairly rough, with the idea being that people can suggest improvements, refinements and general ideas.

The basic premise behind this forum is to compile a group of profiles for various Australian / performing-in-Australia comedians. A set of profiles that can be maintained, updated and used as a reference by all visitors to the board, members or guests. With a decent sized group of people helping to keep these profiles up to scratch with current goings on, they should remain much more up to date than other, similar, guides online.
Because of the diversity of people maintaining these profiles, it does not necessarily have to be restricted to Australians. If people support the addition of someone, they can be added - regardless of where they come from, perform or live in!

This is in no way meant to step on the toes of any other website, magazine, newspaper or whatever else is out there. The information in this forum is designed to be a freely available resource for anyone to draw upon. This includes other webmasters, school and uni students, reporters or anyone else who may find the information useful.
As with any reference guide, you would be expected to list this forum as being a source of information, as a courtesy.
Obviously, the same applies in reverse - when incorporating information into a profile an attempt should be made to list the sources of information used.

That is, at it's most basic, the reason why this forum has been created. As a forum, we've often answered questions about various performers, questions that aren't always easy to find answers for, for someone who is new to "the scene." This is an effort to address that problem, as well as provide a valuable resource for the regulars to draw upon.

Why it has been created as a "community" effort is to combat the problem facing some websites - there's just not enough hours in the day to ensure that every profile is kept up to date. If you check some other website's comedian profiles, you'll often find that some of the more popular people are kept reasonably up to date... Until the webmaster loses interest.
Or some comedians will be right up to the minute updated... While others are lucky if they see an update once a year!
With a half dozen profile maintainers (I hope!) and the help of the wider community, the profiles here will hopefully be kept closer to current events.



-- Profile Process --

After the initial creation of a comedian profile, members can review the profile and post in the profile thread, detailing additions, updates or corrections they feel should be made. Cite sources where appropriate.
The person who originally posted a profile can then edit the original post to incorporate the new information - or if one of the "Profile Mods" sees it first, they can do it instead.
This way, every profile created can be "updated" by virtually anyone. There is no reliance upon the dedication of any one person, and there won't be any concerns about people "playing favourites."

If you feel that there is a comedian not yet listed who you feel deserves to have a profile created, see the new profile suggestion thread for details!
Once a profile thread has been decided to be necessary, the originator should follow the following template: (Suggestions very welcome!)
Insert the relevant data beside the "Name, Gender" etc code, AFTER the /color code.
Insert previous/current work on a new line underneath the appropriate heading.
If you're not sure what this means, check an existing profile for examples.

-- Becoming a Profiler --

"Profilers" are responsible for helping to maintain the profiles entered into the forum. They create new threads for profiles to be kept in, as well as updating existing posts as necessary. They should have a decent working knowledge of the phpBB codes (to make things bold, underlined, italicised, create URL links, insert images in posts, etc) as well as a fair knowledge of various Australian and overseas comedians. They should be prepared to spend at least a little time each week checking out the threads in the forum and seeing if any profiles need updating, as well as ensuring no inappropriate posts are in the forum.
To increase your chances of being accepted, you should've been contributing to various profiles over a period of time, as well as being an active participant in the rest of the forum.

If you think you can handle it, send me a PM and request being assigned as a Profiler. Good english skills are preferred, but an eagerness to help is the most important part.
