| Lurker | 1- AUTOCUE: Would someone PLEASE teach Wil to read the autocue properly! OMG i know hes only knew but i dont think its that hard....(sorry its just so obvious he's reading!) and if he cant read the autocue properly, theres always a script. 2- Background: while it looked nice, i think the people behind the panelist made it look like they were out of the discussion, which made it a little impersonal (personal tase here ppl) 3- just thought the script was a bit flat. So yeah theres what i think..... i managed to sit through the whole thing so theres a positive. Oh and please dont get me wrong i have up-most admiration for Ted Robinson and the GNWTV writing tv- i think there excelent..(specially T. Robinson) the show was ok, just needs a bit more work- (and would be execellent if Wil would learn to read autocue) hmm, thats just my opinon for first time watching... | ||

So I'm not Wil Anderson's biggest fan, but I think he is settling in to the role of host. He seemed a lot more relaxed this week than he did last week. As much as it hurts to say it, I think a lot of the criticism levelled at his autocue reading is because he's being compared to Paul McDermott who had years to perfect the balance between reading the script and audience interaction. Go watch some early GNW episodes and listen to his voice shake for a while. Comparisons aside I think he's in a good position having Corinne Grant's TV experience and Dave Hughes' laidback attitude to help him find his feet and even if the show gets canned he will have at least learned from the experience. *end rant*

It takes practice to 'read' something and have it come out sounding natural... The writers also need to get used to writing for Wil's style to make the transition easier. You can already see an improvement from the first (aired) episode to the current one, which will hopefully continue in the coming weeks. Personally I did find the 'panel' discussion a little less amusing than last week's one - I don't think the female guest really contributed anything of worth.. 'Subby' in my opinion was probably better than the writer guy last week, but still not as amusing as Charlie Pickering.. Probably on a level with "The Toohey's New" guy. :) Bring back Clio! :dunce:

| MOSHer | You're kidding, bring back Clio????? HA, she was even worse than the woman on tonight. Subby, he wasn't bad. And even tho i was there on the night, i thought dave performed well, but on the tellie, it just didn't seem as if he was quite as good as last week....meh, maybe it's just me | ||

Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 4 | Ugh... Clio has to be the unfunniest person I've seen on a comedy show for a while. All she seems to ever do is crack onto Dave, who just shoots her condescending looks in return... it's quite amusing.

| MOSHer | hahhahhahaa, manda!!! i never actually thought of clio as cracking onto dave until just then, and that's soooooo true!!!!! But then again, Wil seems to try to crack onto clio a fair bit too.... | ||

If anyone has not tonight's, but last week's episode on tape, watch it closely... she's always leaning into him and touching his arm and laughing extra loud at him, showing all her teeth... it makes me cringe. And Dave's just like "*patronising look* Riiiiight..."

| Lurker | Hmm, can i just clarrify... I so wasnt comparing Wil to Paul McDermott. (although i do think P/mcDermott is one of the best performers in Aust TV) or anyother journo You cant compare Wil to an experienced person. i was comparing him to newbiees ive seen attempt/learn autocue.- just an obeservation thats all. (alot of them picked it up quickly- they were actors though) AND i think Wil anderson is excellent and has alot of potential on tv. :-) that is all (just ignore me- its friday night and i have no one to discuss tv with tonight cause i didnt go out) | ||

For those of you are interested, I'll be back on either this week or the next- thankyou for your kind words of support in the above discussion. Personally, I think the show is going really well and I loved Subby's work. Keep up the viewing, it's a show that's definitely worth watching.

Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 4 | I have to say Wil's autocue work was a lot better last night than it has been in previous weeks. Last week in particular he read every sentence with a rising intonation, like a question. The more he can practice / relax into this, the more likely we are to get some of what gives Wil his "presence" on stage and on radio - passion and enthusiasm for whatever he's talking about. If he can bring that to the hosting role too, I think he'll be great at it. But I think the show overall is settling in better now. The woman last night was a little weak - to be on a comedy show and start every contribution with "and if we can just be serious for a moment" kinda brought it down a bit. They seem to be mixing up the segments a bit each week - some work better than others, so it's good that they're trying it out in a few different ways. And I'm starting to notice some glasshouse-flavoured things in the show - like the way Wil throws to a guest for comments by "accusing" them of having experience / knowledge of the story he wants them to comment on - really like that. And Charlie P - looking forward to seeing you on again next week - after watching a few shows now, I still think you were one of the best value guests. Not to put any pressure on you, or anything!
