From the access entertainment website:

Paul McDermott - STRICTLY DANCING

One to mark on your dance-card from February 11. For 16 weeks, the ABC's studio 22 will be transformed into a picturesque ballroom, complete with sprung floor, big band, judges, commentators and audience, as 36 of Australia's most competitive dancing couples burn up the floor and fog up the screen in the lead-up to a hotly anticipated grand final. From tango to rumba, salsa to jive, cha cha to swing, this is dancing as you've never seen it on TV before – all the passion, precision and perspiration – this will showcase dance at its most sensuous and liberating. Strictly Dancing welcomes the return to TV of the legendary Peter Faiman as creator and creative consultant.

A nice bit of fancy footwork by the ABC this week has left the commercial networks with extra reason to fear the new ratings year.
Strictly Dancing, hosted by Paul McDermott and billed as ``The Search for Australia's Ultimate Dance Couple'', has suddenly been moved into a primetime slot for its debut next month.
The buzz on this show has been deafening within the industry and rival networks couldn't quite believe their luck when Aunty announced that it would begin on Wednesday February 11 at the unfashionable time of 10pm.
But their worst fears came true with the announcement that the show will now have a Friday night primetime time slot at 8pm from February 13.
That puts it up against Seven's Ground Force and Nine's new Renovation Rescue -- both shows geared towards exactly the same family-viewing audience to which Strictly Dancing is expected to appeal.
Amanda Keller's new 40-part pop culture series, Mondo Thingo, will now move to the later Wednesday night slot where it won't have to struggle against a PG rating.
And in more gloomy news for Nine, the ABC has also decided to move Einstein Factor, its new off-beat quiz show hosted by Peter Berner, to a 6.30pm slot on Sunday evenings from February 8 -- the first day of the ratings for 2004.
That will pit general knowledge against Nine's continuing quest to educate Australians about decking and water features in long-reigning ratings king Backyard Blitz.
The old GNW timeslot.

Saw an add the other night for upcoming shows on Channel 2 from next Sunday. For Friday night there was a little clip of Paul saying "Salsa" and also doing a little dance (mainly just moving in the one spot).

This reality show will floor you
By Robert Fidgeon
Herald Sun 04/02/2004

THE hottest new reality show for 2004 may well have nothing to do with renovating apartment blocks or building a dream house on Bribie Island or discovering another fuzzy-haired Aussie Idol.
The dark horse of the field could prove to be the ABC's reality/variety/hip-hop/street latin/funk/jazz offering, Strictly Dancing.
Over 16 weeks, 48 couples, including same-sex couples, will compete to be voted Australia's ultimate dance couple.
Hosted by Paul McDermott with Lex Marinos providing the commentary, Strictly Dancing will comprise a series of heats and semi-finals and will culminate with the grand final on May 26.
"It's a terrific series, with not only the competition side but also the reality aspect, with cameras going backstage to take in the tears and cheers of the performers,'' Marinos says.
Each week he will explain the tactics employed on the dance floor.
"Mind you, we've got to tie Paul McDermott into his chair to stop him getting out there and monopolising the dance floor,'' he says.
With a live band, four hot young dance couples will compete each week in front of an audience and a judging panel in a nightclub setting.
"The setting has been described as The Jetsons meets The Trocadero,'' Marinos says.
"One of the interesting things is it pushes the dancers outside their comfort zone -- tango champions have to do hip hop and funk stars have to do salsa.
"But the dancers are very talented and enormously fit. It'll be great fun.''

They had the promo on tonight. It looks good, well they made it look good. He's still got it the sexy bastard (ok I know I'm pathetic). Paul always picks some spiffy ties to wear, well most times.

I was trying to travel this coming Friday, hmmm this makes things a little difficult. Oh well I'll figure something out.

Bah, what about that hideous green thing he wouldn't leave alone?? And the gorgeous red one with the asian writing on it that emerged once, was sent back in favour of the green one and was never seen again! He's got shocking taste! *g*
