telegraph has interviewed mcdermott and its true! IT's a good news day for Good News Week fans, with Channel 10 bringing back the much-loved current affairs comedy. Uncertainty about the writers' strike in the US has provided Ten with the perfect opportunity to greenlight more local shows this year. And GNW is the first to profit from it. Last seen on Ten in 2000, its satirical take on the news was the forerunner for shows like The Chaser's War on Everything and the now defunct The Glasshouse. It also launched the TV careers of household names like Rove McManus, Adam Hills and Wil Anderson. The show's original host Paul McDermott will return to front the 2008 version. And he says the show already has the new Federal Government clearly in its sights. "There's a new government and the honeymoon period is over with them," McDermott told TV writer Stephen Downie yesterday. "The gloves are off and we're going to start hitting them where it hurts, as soon as we can get on air." McDermott's guest wish list includes his "dream team" of Keith Urban and his wife Nicole Kidman. Confidential doesn't want to burst the bubble before it hits the small screen, but in the immortal words of The Castle's Daryl Kerrigan, "tell him he's dreamin". | ||

Hereis the press release as posted on tvtonight.com.au Press Release: Paul McDermott, the acid-tongued cherub of satire, will reprise his role as host of one of Australian TV’s most successful current affairs comedy shows, Good News Week, when it returns to TEN in February 2008. Having blazed a trail for shows such as "Spicks & Specks" (an ABC TV production) and "The Glass House" (a GNW production), alleged TV legend Ted Robinson and his production company will bring Good News Week back to our screens. Each week, Paul & two Captains will lead teams of comedians, media personalities, politicians and "special” guests as they decipher, dissect, deconstruct & completely misrepresent the news of the week. “A show like Good News Week (GNW) has never been more relevant. It was the show that arguably kicked off many successful variations of the same in recent years, and there is a notable void of this type of current affairs style comedy leading into 2008. The writers' strike in the US has highlighted the importance of formats that are home grown, durable and flexible, and rarely do you see a show like GNW where years later you watch and can say that still works. I saw the title and saw who posted it and thought maybe you were being a smartass in some fashion. HOLY CRAP.  FEBRUARY? Holy crap. Just... Holy crap! Speculation on team captains? I assume if it was just going to be Mikey and Julie they'd've said so. Are they busy or unwanted? Corinne Grant as new-Julie perhaps? | ||
