i generally stay at the vic hotel. and for two people (me and mum) at the moment its $99 a night including buffet breakfast, and its behind the melbourne town hall.
There is prolly backpacker places around which is cheaper etc.

there's backpackers in Elizabeth and Spencer Sts (Elizabeth Hostel and All Nations) that don't look too scummy and have pretty good prices
All Nations -
Dormitory Room (share with 15 others) - $15 per night
Single Room - $38 p/n
Double Room - $48 p/n
Elizabeth Hostel -
6 Bed Dormitory - $20 p/n
Double Private Room - $27.50 p/n
2 Bed Private Room - $27.50 p/n
4 Bed Dormitory - $23 p/n
1 Bed Private Room - $45 p/n

but its quite possible they're full at this stage of the festival i guess.
you might be able to find something like a guest house or a self contained unit-y thing. i dunno.
good luck

Thanks Guys...

I still have to get work's approval for hols & decided whether I want to blow $1000 odd dollars

I really want to go & I've been saying for years "Next year I'm going to save up & go to Comfest" & you guys are all going & I'm jealous & the money is in the bank & it's a potential house deposit & if I go I will never leave the house again this year & have to work saturdays ...

ok DEEP BREATHE...

I also am staying at the Vic but I am only paying $45 a night. They have discounts for uni students and they used to give discounts for public servants as well, so haggle a bit

Ooooo... I'd be up for that... either that or we find some backpackers place and get a massive group together to share a dorm... either way, keep me informed... I'll be coming down next year, all going according to plan... and I'll need some good/cheap-ish accommodation! Plsu, if we have a group of MOSHers, then it's sure to be loud, fun, and interesting!

Yeah, me too. I have no problem staying by myself, but it would be fun (not to mention probably cheaper) with a group!
