OK, it's been my first night for Com Fest this year, and I've already gotta say that if you can, go and see Fleety and Tom Gleeson's shows. Fleety is on fire, as usual, and his deviations from his set of ideas is extremely amusing to be a witness to. Tom's show relies heavily on audience participation, but rocks along very well. He is a little more confident this year. Or maybe just a bit louder. Either way, his show is a good cack.

Boiling Point!
Charlie and Michale do a great job, and it's not just Charlie's interview stuff either. There is so much more!!!

It's really really good. The audience laughed so hard they could barely clap.

Definitely go and see Ross Noble!  I was in tears last night during his show I was laughing that hard, he's absolutely brilliant.  AND everyone must go and see Tripod, I didn't think it was possible but they've put on an even better show than last year

Fred: Would you have loved me?
Wesley: I've loved you ... since I've known you ...

Out of the 9 shows I've seen so far (Dave Hughes, Tripod, Scared Weird Little Guys, The 3 Canadians, Peter Helliar, Adam Hills, Chris Addison, Dave Callan and Ross Noble), I STRONGLY recommend the following:

* Tripod - I'm not just saying this because I'm biased towards anything that Tripod lend their name to, honestly. If you saw Tosswinkle last year and thought the lads did a good job at the whole story-based show thing (and if you were a fanatic of that brilliant Megamix), then TRUST ME - Lady Robots is 5 times better!!! It was the first show out of the 9 to make me cry, and if anyone knows my wacky way of "measuring" how good comedy is, then you know that means I hold it in very high regard. :p
* Chris Addison - the second show to make me cry. Chris' method of delivery is guaranteed to make you laugh until you do that horrible snorting thing which is quite embarassing but can't be helped.
* Ross Noble - the only fault I have with this show (shocking that anyone could find any faults at all! ) is that it will definitely differ each and every night, so for the rest of the Festival I will be left thinking "noooooo!! What zany kooky things is Noble pulling out of the top of his head tonight?!?!"

Other shows worth seeing for sure are SWLG, Adam Hills (I don't think I've ever seen Adam do any crap material before) and The 3 Canadians.

Agree on the Adam Hills comment, although the night we went there was this weird atmosphere which wasn't helped by the stupid wanker journalist reviewer in the audience putting a dampener on everything.

But since no one has mentioned this yet, I want to strongly and vigourously recommend Wil Anderson.  He was never on my list of priority shows but I got talked into going and I am so so [b:post_uid0]SO[/b:post_uid0] glad I did.  He was on fire.  I hadn't heard any of the material before (but that doesn't say much since I haven't seen him since before last com fest).  The atmosphere was electric, he was so psyched up and energetic.  A truly fantastic show.  I was cacking myself the whole way through.  And if you go, there's a little treat at the end of his routine which I don't really want to spoil but which basically entails going through different bits of his show in different styles, which is piss funny too.  The hour went so fast and I was smiling all night.  Truly brilliant work and not to be missed!

Don't ask me nothing about nothing; I just might tell you the truth. (Bob Dylan)

I'm gonna give a huge thumbs up for The Dodge-M.. it's absolutely fan-bloody-tastic.. with almost ALL new material.. if it weren't for a fairly crappy audience the night I went, it would've been even better I'm sure.. and I'm goin again.. and again... and maybe again..
also - as others have said..
Ross Noble and Boiling Point - both fantastic..
and Tripod - just continuing to outdo themselves.. absolutely incredible..

I just saw Boiling Point (my first show of comfest!) and Michael and Charlie are just hilarious. Go see it, and I think they both have a new obsessed fan in the form of my brisvegas friend cos it was her first taste of live comedy and now she's in love with it. Anyway enough crapping on, just go see it.

If you have a spare hour or so, go and see Tom Gleeson - Ginger Ninja. Like someone said up there, it relies alot on audience participation and although i think is a bit slow to start off with, it picks up heaps and he rolls along very funny all the way to the end. I had never seen him before, but i will definitely keep my eyes out for him now... hilarious stuff!

sarah

p.s. Comedyoscopy is a hoot and a half.... it made me laugh so much i cried at one stage. This was also due to some very very brilliantly timed heckles from the audience, but nonetheless a fantastic show. Although i'm sure most of you will see it no-doubt before the end of the Fest, it's really hilarious.

I want my life to be like a Whitlams song...
