I took the train

eeee. I don't recomend it. I couldn't sleep. It was noisy and lights were on and the chairs aren't big enough(deep enough).
Mind you, we were traveling down and then haveing to be up all day and then travel back. If you could stay awake on the train and then sleep somewhere when you got off it wouldn't be too bad I guess.
A sleeper car would be good but costs more than a plane more often than not.
But on the normal train you have to sleep sitting up. There's not enough room to sleep on the floor in front of the seets, your legs stick out in the isle and people step on them. There were people walking up and down the isle all night.
On the way home I slept because I was completely exhausted but I kept waking up with my arm dead or my leg dead and my back was killing me.
If you're doing the train thing then dose up on painkillers and have somewhere to sleep once you get off.

Um, just as a general rule, do MICF shows sell out and are there scaplers?
If yes to q1, how far ahead should we book (this is especially for the bg shows ie Ross Noble Ed Byrne etc. And is there a chance of the run of a show being extended? (sorry if these questions suck but please humour the comfest first timer)

Thanks

The ones that sell out tend to do so on the night. If you know for sure that yuo will be going to a show on a certain night, go ahead and book now. Just make sure that you keep the tickets somewhere safe...
They have a big chalkboard outside the Town Hall where they write the names of the shows, venues and times. It's re-written every night (if you walk past at about 5 you can see the poor person up the ladder covering themself in chalk), and they update it as each show sells out.

The runs of shows won't be extended - there's plenty of time to see all the shows you want!

OK, just as note - last year acts like Ross Noble, Daniel Kitson were sold out for the final week about 5 days in advance. The Boosh sold out the Hi-Fi and Dave Gorman sold out the Town Hall Dining Room well in advance the year before.

I'm doubting there will be problems getting tix to Ross this year as he's playing the rather large Athenaeum 1 venue, but you might want to secure tix to acts such as Daniel Kitson & Rich Hall who are playing the Lower Town Hall, Dave Gorman up in the Dining Room and Noel Fielding in Hi-Fi. And of course, buy tix in advance to big events like The Debate and the Gala.

Just quickly back on the underage thing - i think you'll find most pub/club venues relax the over-18 thing when they have shows on (After all, one of the biggest, most popular venues (HIFI) in the festival happens to be a licenced bar). The Pony just closes its upstairs bar during shows, and I think even the Vic Hotel is fine with under 18s. If you're unsure -

http://www.comedyfestival.com.au/200..._list_2003.pdf

this is a list of venues, whether they are licenced and phone numbers so you can give them a call and see if they'll let in under 18's
