Chris Addison, other internationalists- who to see ?:MICF

Hi all!
Would anyone know if the (glorious, fantastic, hilarious) Chris Addison is attending this years festival (if yes, in a pub or a theatre?)? Ditto Adam Hills (please please be theatre)
Also, bearing in mind that I aint going to be in Melbs very long and I think I will be catching only 2 or 3 shows, who do you think I should catch(I want to see internationalists mainly- people who most likely come to Sydney, so please recommend away, Aussies too). Any festival faves you recommend?

ALSO (a bit OT, but I dislike opening new threads as I feel I am being a MOSH hog) does anyone know what happened to a one man show (red hair, glasses, bizarre dress sense, english) calling himself the League Against Tedium? I saw his spot at the gala on tv ages ago and then never heard of him again and I though he was great! Is he still around? Is he on this year?

Anyhow, thanks kids- you have no idea how much I value your expert opinions

Aussie

The press keep telling me what it is that “I’m doing”
I’m so thankful, without them I wouldn’t know
What I was up to.

Simon Munnery, aka, The League Against Tedium, aka, The Urban Warrior, aka...well, a few other things as well *g*

He was at comfest last year, doing a two man show with another British comedian, and a few shows as the League (which I was disappointed to miss, but I did catch him doing Festival Club in the hifi, so that was good *g*).

No idea if he'll be out for the festival this year, but at least now you know he's still around.

He was on GnW once...didn't say much *g*

Oh yes, that's right, he's worm guy *G*

He's brilliant though *G* I was in a shit of a mood going into the hifi the night I saw him, three drinks and half of his act later and I was in tears of laughter *G*

BTW, he wore officially THE dumbest shirt ever to be on GNW, and that includes Rod's shirts and Amanda Vanstone's shirts *g* It was floral...in that it was ACTUALLY MADE OUT OF PLASTIC FLOWERS!!! *g*

Going by the five minutes of so on the video, that shirt scares the shit out of me.

Although Jenny Eclaire's outfit was pretty scary as well...

Yeah, Chris Addison will be there, more than likely in the Town Hall. He'll be doing 'The Ape That Got Lucky', a comedy about evolution that kinda follows on from his previous 2 shows about civilisation. It's a certain highlight.

Other International shows I recommend that perhaps you haven't heard about-

Richard Herring's 'Talking Cock', which is the results of his mega online survey last year into male and female views of the penis. Like 'Are You Dave Gorman?', the success of the stage show has allowed Herring to write a spin-off book about the experiences. From my information, it's on at the Capitol Theatre.

Men in Coats - some of the best physical comedy I've ever seen. Well presented, well timed... no jokes, just some fine visual gags set to cool music.

Danny Bhoy - you may remember him from a few years ago as a guest performer at Raw Comedy (2000). He won the 'UK Daily Telegraph Open Mic Award', and he gives Chris Addison a huge run for his money in the sex appeal stakes and almost stands shoulder to shoulder with Adam Hills on sweetness. Oh, and he's hilarious!

Then of course you have Dave Gorman, Daniel Kitson, Ross Noble, Arj Barker and Rich Hall to see as well. Plus newcomers like Glenn Wool, Francesca Martinez, and *cough* Dan Antopolski.

I'll try and post up all my Edinburgh 2002 reviews of these acts by the weekend for Moshers to read and see what they are in for.

All the International shows are all-ages, including the Hi-Fi Bar so there's no worries. Just remember that if you are seeing something at the Hi-Fi Bar and you're under 18 to take a guardian with you.

Forgot to mention, the best idea is to see 2 or 3 shows in a row at the one room/venue. In one night its certainly not hard to catch 3 international shows in one room of the Melbourne Town Hall, and that way even if shows are running late you're not going to miss anything.

One more tip - Dave Gorman, Chris Addison, Ross Noble and Daniel Kitson will probably sell out waaaaaaaaay before their shows. If you want to see any of them, buy tickets well in advance (ie. before going down to Melbourne).

I'll post up the show times and venue lists on ComedyLive the day the programme comes out (not until March) so all of you can start to make up your Excel Spreadsheet schedules asap.

Heh heh, I don't know what's sadder, that I do that, or that it appears it's not uncommon!

no Alisso, I know many people who make Excel lists for comfest. Its the best way to sort out times and purchase tickets. Nothing sad with that at all. Its just smart thinking!

I mean, would you go on a a quick trip around overseas without at least having some schedule to follow? It's the best way to get most out of your limited time. Even if it is a whole month in Melbourne. hehe

Personally I'd use StarOffice's database thing, whatever it's called, since that's free and Excel isn't.

When will Greg Proops ever make another appearance at the Fest?

He was out here in 1997 I do believe, but I missed the show die to lack of funds, and he's never been back since.

For those who don't place the name, he's the Buddy Holly-glasses wearing American who hosted 'hey hey it's saturday' once, and it a regular on the US version of 'Whose Line is it Anyway'.

Very funny man. And I want him to come to Melbourne, dammit.
