Sorry about starting the new thread, but I think it's worth pointing out all the new news... Melbourne International Comedy Festival says 2003 will be the biggest comedy festival ever. Yes, yes I think I agree with a line-up like this. Here's the latest - all official as of a press release today... INTERNATIONAL - Rich Hall as Otis Lee Crenshaw (US) Daniel Kitson (UK) - performing 'Something' Dave Gorman (UK) - performing a 'world premiere show'... details to come Noel Fielding (UK) - performing 'Voodoo Hedgehog' Richard Herring (UK) - 'Talking Cock' Ross Noble (UK) - 'Sonic Waffle' Jeff Green (UK) Arj Barker (US) Boothby Graffoe (UK) Ed Byrne (IRE) Glenn Wool (CANADA) Mike Wilmot (CANADA) Lee Mack (UK) Dan Antopolski (UK) Men in Coats (UK) Francesca Martinez (UK) Danny Bhoy (UK) Jason Byrne (IRE) Tommy Tiernan (IRE) Neil Innes (UK) - honorable member of Monty Python Condors (JAP) (NOTE: notable absence of Chris Addison on this list, as was not included on the press release after being announced in the December one... I'll follow it up to see if it was a mistake or he's pulled out) Homegrown talent includes - Dave Hughes, Wil Anderson, Adam Hills, Tripod, Rod Quantock, Judith Lucy, Merrick and Rosso, Charlie Pickering & Michael Chamberlin, Madeleine West, Sarah Kendall, Terri Psaikis, Denise Scott & Lynda Gibson, Lawrence Mooney & Damian Callinan, Tom Gleeson, Paul McDermott, Ciel, and Fiona OLoghlin. Sorry for not putting enough emphasis on locals here, but I'm figuring we all knew who locally was planning to perform. International-wise, fantastic stuff... everyone single one of them is a winner and worth seeing. The festival has really excelled itself in securing such a lineup, unlike previous years with some dubious inclusions. I'd hate to think any of these performers would struggle to find an audience. Personally, I'm most excited about seeing Tommy Tiernan, that you would best know as the star of Small Potatoes. The man is a king when it comes to monologues. | ||

| MOSHer | OK, some more important news... Chris Addison will NOT be performing at this years Comedy Festival. It's 100% confirmed news. However, he will be doing the Comedy Festival roadshow. Other news, the programme will be released in the Age on March 7th. That should satisfy some people's thirst for knowledge. | ||

| MOSHer | I guess you want an answer as to why Chris isn't doing the festival, but doing the roadshow... I'll find out. My guess is something along the lines of the fact Chris loves Australia so much he wants to see more of it (he's always going on driving holidays after Melbourne), but can't afford to take the time off for both Melbourne Comfest and the Roadshow. Anyway, I'll ask the man himself and see what he has to say. And yes Jay, aren't we both pleased we got to see 'The Ape That Got Lucky' last year in Edinburgh? yay! | ||
