I saw quite a lot of stuff. Here is a quick review if anyone is interested...

MacHomer- Impressive but not earth shattering. Have seen other people do similar things better. Still very enjoyable and very clever.

3 Canadians- As always, a lot of fun. Not their best work but still a highlight of the 2001 festival for me.

Anthony Morgan- I love this guy. Best way to describe the man is as a junk yard philosopher. Just seems to ramble but it is always great.

Auto Boosh- Weird. But I loved it. Surreal Comedy. Not neccessarily everyone's cup of tea, but I really enjoy these guys.

Dave Gorman- I still want to know why this guy didn't win the Mosehead or the Barry awards! BEST FESTIVAL SHOW I HAVE EVER SEEN! and I don't say that lightly. I never thought I would ever see myself cheering for a mathimatical graph!

Dave Grant- What can you say about Dave grant except that this man is the embodyment of professionalism in comedy. I have a lot of respect for Dave and have never seen him do a show I haven't liked.

Dave Williams- Great stuff. Doesn't seem to get the audience recognition he deserves. Matt literally cracked a rib from laughing too hard during Dave's show. A fresh face in Australian comedy and I can only imagine that he will continue to improve.

Des Dowling- Not a highlight, but nice and innocently fun.

Greg Fleet- Not his best work, but Fleety is Fleety. Always a guy to watch and enjoy. I always seem to be unsure wheather I should be laughing or not in Fleety's shows. He goes darker than most other comics are willing to go.

Meat and Two Veg- All newbies to the festival. Turned out an enjoyable show despite being crammed into the Cloak Room at the Town Hall (Undoubtable the worst venue in the building). Definitely keep an eye ot for Jackie Loeb and Jimbo in the future.

Otis Lee- Nothing more to say than, I LOVE RICH HALLS WORK!!!!!

Wil Anderson- Enjoyed this show a lot. Wil Anderson seems to find material that he cares about and this translates into an infectious energy whenever he is on the stage.

Saw some other stuff to but can't remember it all. There was a show with Sean Hughs and some other guys from the UK. Sean was actually a little disappointing considering I know what he can be like. Unfortunately I can no onger remeber the name of the guy in that show, who I really liked. Just remember that he had some great stuff about elephants.

Oops, forgot to mention my buddies the artists previously known as FreeFall. The Dodge.

They had a great show at the festival this year. Unfortunately the location was a bit of distance from the Town Hall and probably didn't get the audience numbers they deserved. Lots of energy and lots of fun. Ans of course, lots of eye candy!

Thats exactly how I felt the very first time I saw him in Edinburgh 2000! *I walked out of the show honestly believing I'd just seen a comedy god and possibly the best show ever written. *So happy to see that Gorman has gone on to bigger and better things because of it - so happy for him :-)
Btw, he's on the Letterman show in a day or two promoting his NYC run of "Are You Dave Gorman?"

Now that I've said that about Gorman, I can finally put the next bit into context... it's regarding Daniel Kitson who is doing Melbourne next year. *I had a very same feeling walking out of his show in Edinburgh this year as I did for Gorman the year before. *Like I'd just witnessed something special. *A feeling like that doesn't come around too often for me when I see so many comics throughout the year. *

However, Kitson has a very different style to Gorman, so don't go expecting him to do all his gags in a graph or getting all obsessed about his namesakes! *Instead you will witness a comedian who looks like a cross between a uni lecturer and a paedophile, with huge amount of wit and a tongue sharper than any blade when it comes to hecklers.

OK... I went to this show. *It included Terry Alderton and Phill Jupitus. *Jupitus did the gag about elephants. *Totally agree... Sean Hughes can do soooooo much better than that.

I believe Noel Feilding may be doing a solo show in the fest next year.

You're absolutely right Meshel - Noel Fielding is doing a solo show.  My friend ran into him last week in London hanging out at the Virgin Megastore and said he can't wait to get back to Melbourne for the comedy festival.
Julian Barratt (the other half of the Boosh) will be starring in a new movie that will be filming around the same time in London.  Hence why he's not coming back.
Still - 1 half is better than none!

Anyone else heard line-up news or goss???

I saw the debate, which was hilarious (Greg Fleet is a legend), and it was the first time I ever went to see live comedy. I wanted to see some other shows but I hadn't saved any money (The debate thing was very last minute and there were 6 seats left when I went to book!) and I regret not seeing Adam Hills. One of my friends is buying tickets for me for a birthday present next year which is nice so I'll be able to see a couple of shows.
