It has two bars (yes... two! Count them) so I'm assuming that they're a licensed venue. Um. There has been a bit of debarkle as to whether under 18's can get into the venue for shows. There is very tight security, but occasionally underagers slip in.

If you have parents with you while you're seeing the show, you should get in, but you'll be ushered out straight after the show. I would definately suggest against trying to get in just with friends who are over 18.

"PATRONS 18YRS OR UNDER MUST BE SUPERVISED BY A PARENT OR
LEGAL GUARDIAN."

That's what they've posted in regards to the Tripod show. Whether you can get away with it just being a friend who's over 18 depend on how strict they're being. Technically you're talking parent, grandparent, aunt/uncle that kind of thing.

From experience and talking to bouncers, it's only ok to go with your parent or guardian. Grandparents, aunts and uncles still don't count and you have no higher chance of getting in (if they push it) than if you were going with your friends.

For the Hi-Fi Bar, you could go with a friend's parent or guardian, but you have to sign a statutory declaration that diverts responsibility from your parents' to theirs for the night. Seriously.

Other states might be differnt but in NSW it's 'immediate presence of a responsible adult' which under the Liquor Acts reads

A responsible adult is:
 a parent, step parent or guardian;
 the minor’s spouse or any person who, although not
legally married to the minor, ordinarily lives with the
minor as the minor’s spouse on a permanent and
domestic basis; or
 a person who, for the time being, has a parental
responsibility for the minor.

edit: check out Victoria's liquor laws, know for sure

Or, ring the venue and ask. I rung the comedy club, and they said I had to have a parent with me, and I asked if my sister counted, and the lady asked someone and said it'd do just fine.
