As some of you know I do a comedy/music act with Joe and after a long discussion we thought it might be fun to do the Melbourne Comedy festival instead of the edinburgh festival next year. But our management is a music manager and so has no clue about getting venues for Melbourne. If anybody can throw some light on how to get a venue, who to send press packs and cd's to etc then can you either PM me or email me :o) We were also thinking of coming over a month or two before to do some comedy clubs any suggestions or addresses of clubs or venues? I know it seems a bit early but to get a venue for august at the edinburgh fringe, you have to have your application in by january so we thought we would seek help sharpish! cheers

Maybe you should try and get in touch with a some managers here who mught be willing to take you on for the MICF and be Australian representatives. As for the outside MICF gigs most pubs etc are happy to do musical kinda comedy even if they're not running comedy regularly. I'll get in touch with you re: the details on how to get a book with venues and managers etc etc. You should be able to get it sent from here otherwise I can get one and send it across ![]() I'll be in touch!

Try calling Melbourne Fringe Festival. They have (or used to have at any rate) a really good "Resource Catalogue" that was a big folder full of phone numbers and ideas for venues, media, yah de yah da.. bit of a lucky dip but not a bad place to start. Also, the Fringe Festival is a good place to test the melbourne market for you. Cheaper and easier (and ergo, smaller) all round.

You dont need to be invited if you are an international guest, but to be part of the official festival, you have to register. I think the office officaially opens regos from October, closing late December. They are extrememly helpful, before and during the festy with any questions you have. They send you a 30 page producers pack and a slighly more involved marketing pack with every phone number, email of evey radio station, print, tv producer, presneter, etc. Its very thorough, and extremly helpful for first timers. If I was you, I'd come out and do the Adelaide Fringe (which is biannual, thus quite popluar) the month before Melbourne, and try to bet into the Big Laugh Comedy Festival in Sydney. Thats one is invitation only though. Hope it helps

Adelaide isn't scary,Elizabeth is, and I live there so I should know. Actually it's no too bad. All the criminals live here so they tend to only 'cavort' here. All the juicy stuff goes on in the areas where there is stuff worth knocking off. Really, they don't mind the commute

Its only scary in Snowtown and that is an hour or so drive from the city well unless you want to hang around the Supreme Court (which I have no choice about ) because then you can see all of those losers on a daily basis while the trial continues for the next million years (slight exageration but it is expected to be the longest criminal trial ever held!!)and yeah, Sooty and me and Tawg and Baby G and other less scary Adelaide mosh inhabitants will keep you entertained and keep you away from the scary people around (or are we the scariest people around!!) hmmmm who thinks its too early in the morning for me to be trying to be funny and sarcastic and supposedly "working"?? :lookarou:
