help for the inexperienced

having lived in sydney and been in school i've never been able to get to comfest. However am definately going in 2004 but i will only be 17 and 10.5 months. So i don't really know much about how the whole thing works but are the town hall gigs under 18, or will i have to leave it to the last minute when under 18 shows are announced, like tripods half way through the festival last year. I just want to make sure i can get into something whilst my over 18 friends are at tripod, any help would be appreciated

17 and 10.5 months.. ouch! That's almost as bad as my sister going to schoolies when she was a few days shy of turning 18.

Well don't fret cos there are HEAPS of things to see at the fest whatever your age. I went a few years back when I was underage, and appart from a few disappointments (like Tripod playing at a hotel) I found most acts I wanted to see were playing underage gigs. I saw heaps of things at the Town Hall, a few at the trades hall and one at a theatre and there were all for under 18's. Usually shows will only be over 18 if they are on at a pub/hotel or maybe if the artist is very explicit. You should be able to find out if they are open to under 18's pretty well in advance.

Even if you are under 18 just go anyway , the majority of places dont check for ID

no don't. because if you get caught the venue can loose it's liscence an then that's one less place for law abiding, over agers to see comedy/gigs.

there will be other comfests and there is plenty of stuff for all ages. town hall is all age isn't it?

I turned 18 on the last day of Comfest this year. It didn't stop me going to any shows though.

unfortunately i have an overactive conscience and am unable to break rules. thus no illegal underage entering for me. damn.

You have nothing to worry about - 90% of the shows are on in all-age venues like the Town Hall. Even the Hi-Fi Bar allows under 18's when accompanied by parent or guardian (with exception of the Festival Club after 11pm).
