Purple Cows was fucking great, but what do you expect from Justin?

i've heard that Adam Hills' show is absolutely incredible from about 5 different people, and am hanging to see it.

I will, when i can be bothered, later - post some reviews for what i saw this weekend:

Dave Callan - Bare Faced Cheek
Anthony Menchetti - We're all going to die
Damian Clarke - the bandit
Justin Hamilton - Purple Cows

everyone, if you have the time and money, go and see Ross Noble! I went last night and it was awesome. He's a comedy genius.

Adam Hills

I'd never seen Adam Hills and I really liked him. Thought he was a bit overhyped, but really good, and my friend from the country loved him. He seems like a genuinely lovely person too, which is always nice.

I've been to the mooseheads twice and both times have been amazing lineups. even ross noble did a spot last year, and he doesn't often do small spots at events.

and if i remember rightly, tripod sang 'heard it through the grapevine' at the end of the first one, and I thought i was going to die.

so yes. i reckon it is worth going to.

The show at MICF will just bve a fundraiser, and the announcememnts are made towards the end of the year. But you can still bitch about the decisions if you want ...

So far I've only seen 'Bandit' and 'Fin Begin' and I have to say that I really enjoyed both shows. 'Bandit' is Damian Clark's first solo show and it really benefitted from having a Moosehead-financed Director to calm him down and make him stretch that energy so it lasted a full hour. The show did feel slightly over directed but then again, with Damo's rampant ADD it probably had to be.
'Fin Begin' blew me away. The quintessential example of what a Moosehead show should be. Lovely.

My main recommendation would be not to attempt to see 7 shows in two nights.
Ah, who am I kidding, it was worth it

Lee Mack: 4/5
As everyone above has mentioned, a really great performer.

Simon Munnery: 2/5
Disapointing, I'm sad to say. I remember seeing him on 'Standing Up' a few years back and thought he was a comedy genius, though his show last week seemed lacking. I thought perhaps I'd just missed out on the gold due to walking in late after seeing Lee, but I overheard some other disapointed voices in the toilets after the show. His quips based on ideas scrawled on his large notepad thingo were more what I had expected from him, but it wasn't enough to save the rest of the show.

Daniel Kittson: 5/5
This man is a god. Literally. And it's rare for comedians to pull off arrogance so well, but I felt the entire audience was hoping to become one of the "final twelve"

Tokyo Shock Boys: 4/5
A last minute impulse decision on my brothers behalf, but one I'm very glad he made. We went to an early show which meant there was enough empty seats to sneak into a better viewing position. The show itself it funnier than I expected, although that being said, I wasn't really expecting much on the humour front. A few words of warning; don't sit near the front if you don't want to be splattered by various objects, and when the boys walk around to shake hands with the audience towards the end, just keep in mind which one of them had been giving himself rather enthusiastic "massages" just moments before.

Ross Noble: 3.5/5
I only managed to catch half of this show and was a little disapointed. The venue itself (Anthaneum) is incredibly squashy (well, it was on my level anyway) and as much as I love Ross, I'm begining to see why my friend finds him so annoying. I think the show would have been very enjoyable if I hadn't been focused on the fact that I had to leave soon to catch Sarah's show. Either way, definately a show for fans to catch.

Sarah Kendall: 5/5
Another must-see comedian, I can't reccomend her enough. Witty, perfectionist and polite...a strange combination which works well. I particularly liked her letters to herself from the future. *giggles* And I've never seen anyone perform air (imaginary) harmonica better.

Late Night Impro: 3/5
It's difficult to recommend an improvised show, seeing as though it can vary from night to night...but if last Saturday was anything to go buy, this show is pretty good. A bit hit and miss in some skits, but the MC (I've forgotten his name) was always there to add some twists to get the audience back on side.

I also recommend accepting flyers from Nicko and Joe. Mmmm, free jellybeans, lol.

As opshop girl mentioned, Sarah Kendall was fantastic, with some brilliant air harmonica action. I was told not to see her by various people, but am extremely glad I went against their advice and dragged my best friend along with me.

I also saw Tripod last night who were, as always, superb although not as good as last year. They also signed stuff after the show, and were generally lovely. See them if you can!

Am going to try to get Lee Mack tickets. Wish me luck.

Justin Hamilton- is fantastic I could not stop laughing
Danny McGinlay- is great , it's worth missing the train for
Charlie Pickering - Very funny , just ask about "Webster" and also good if you like a happy ending
Andrew McClelland - very very good and you might learn something too
GUD - not as good as last years show (old material changed slightly to make it look new)
Simon Munnery -"The true confessions of Sherlock Holmes" was hilarious
But if you have not read the books about Sherlock Holmes dont see it because it wont make much sense
The bedroom Philosopher -he was pretty good
Sarah Kendall - she was not that good
The 3rd degree - not bad for 5 dollars especially "Chopper" reading a bedtime story and all the 80's TV show references
Todd Barry - ok , but not a show you would pay for

well reviewed.

Dave Callan - Yay! I wish I'd been in on a night with a less annoying audience, but you can't go wrong with kung fu - disabled style. madness 7/10

Anthony Menchetti - A bit overproduced... I like Ant, A lot. but I found the show more 'clever' than funny, though still alright... 5/10

Damian Clarke - Shit yeah. I love damo So much energy. and a great story to boot, combined well with some of his old stories that I'd wanted to hear again for Ages. 8/10

Justin Hamilton - fuck yeah. I know I'd heard a lot of the stories before, but i have trouble remembering often whether I've heard them just in convos with Jussy or in a show. 9/10

Andy McClelland - fucking funny as... this boy is way too in love with pirates. see it if you like pirates, and to have a show teach you something, while using funny voices and props 8/10

Adam Hills - I don't think it can be said enough how fucking ace Hillsy is. His show just leaves you feeling all warm and fuzzy 10/10

Sarah Kendall - absolutely brilliant actually. probably one of the shows that's had me laughing the most - possibly because sarah is both so abstract and so intelligent in her comedy. she had me giggling my head off. 9/10

Gerard McCulloch - Now, gerard is one of my favourite stand-ups, but, *sigh* I found myself doing that thing that I HATE to see people doing, and that was, looking at my watch. honestly, a show where the whole audience knows the joke you're building up to, and they're expected to laugh hysterically when you finally get to it, after 10 minutes of lead up? nuhuh. it was a clever concept, but not FUNNY enough to get you into it. i think the biggest laugh of the whole show came when one of the crowd members made a smart-arse comment as a question at the end. bit sad really. I wish to god that Gerard would just do a bloody stand-up show. he was funnier in his 5 mins at the hifi bar than he was in an entire hour of show. harsh, i know, and i still love the guy, but ARGH. such a waste! for Christs sakes Gerard, if you happen reading this, I love you - but do a show that's just stand up, or use some of your GOOD characters, like the detective dude. that one rocks! 2/10

GUD - i've seen them do better, but sometimes it's the fact that Gud keep telling you how crap they are that makes them funnier. plus McDermott's blatant bagging of audience members, stealing people's chips and throwing them at people, doing bird mating rituals and making the other 2 dane in their 'podiums' under the speakers like their midgets were supposed to. funny. I only wish they had more new stuff 7/10

Wil Anderson- I always enjoy Wil, but this year, I dunno what it is about me - I'm just not as thrilled by anything any more. tragic, I know. I don't get it either. But Wil was good. plenty of new material mixed in with some old stuff, I think he thinks he can start rehashing on stuff he did about 3 years ago now, like bumper stickers... but oh well. still funny. 7.5/10

Dave Gorman- I'd already seen the original, so I knew what to expect. but Dave's energy, and amazing story-telling skills never cease to impress me. 10/10 of course.

I think that's it....
