I found the whole Gala quite dull overall, but I know I was laughing at Kitson. So I guess they've just spliced that footage in. (as they did a few years ago with me laughing at Vince Sorrenti - a comic I deplore on every level). Dan will be happy at such my reaction I'm sure. heh. Unfortunately my biggest disappointment was with Rob Rouse, who I adored at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2002. I'm finding that his show this year borders on Northern Working Mans club humour, not the cheeky chappie I so fondly remember. But so far, best show has been Charlie Pickering, and I'm sure I'm not alone in that opinion. Brendon Burns runs a close second.

| Member | I watched the Gala on the tube mainly because I needed my Lano & Woodley fix (a lot of you would've seen the tape routine before, but I haven't so it was all fresh to me), but I taped some of the other acts as well. My least favourite was Daniel Kitson...It wasn't so much the humour that turned me off as the delivery. Screw-ups are excusable but I just couldn't appreciate his style. Loved The Schneedles. I'm a sucker for that sort of comedy. Does Wil Anderson always seem as though he's just snorted something? I've never seen him apart from his GNW appearances so I wouldn't have a clue. Love Fiona but feel as though she wasn't at her best in the Gala. | ||

| MOSHer | Well, it wasn't as good as it has been, but I thought the gala was alright overall. Cept for all the weird athletic stuff that took place at the start. Lots of tokenism. Loved Daniel anyway, he had me laughing. Loved Lano & Woodley, but it's hard not to. Hated the schneedles, wanted to whack that ukelele over his head. Wil looked like a lost cause and I'd seen the stuff before so twasn't funny 2nd time. Um... loved Danny Bhoy, but I'm a sucker for accents. Loved Lee Mack, but he's my current 'crush' for want of a less-american word. I liked Maria Bamford. I don't know, her humour just tickles me. Denise Scott sent me on a bathroom break. Bleah. Fiona... fell bit flat. Erm... agree with unfrufru on Howard Read, but the concept is pretty cool. And his shirt amused me. Hmm hmmm Gud didn't inspire. Tripod Scod--> ![]() | ||

...but we are not stupid pooeys, so let's rejoice... "I'm upstaging you baby... and they're loving it!" (Lano, to Woodley).

RE: Gala I love it when Tripod do their harmonies. I was impressed with them, and I'm actually really looking forward to seeing them this year. I was impressed with GUD (mainly because I wasn't expecting ANYTHING from them) and their ability to write new lyrics AND melody. Well done boys - I'm reconsidering going to see the show this year. I loved the idea of Howard Reed's show. I was extremely impressed. Did anyone else think that there was a lot of catholic/jesus bashing in the gala this year?

they did that song in Adelaide....it was definitely GOLD!!... superb song. Got to love nerdy Scod ![]() Adam and Lee made me laugh a lot. Got a snigger out of me for Daniel Kitson, (but only cause I hate pigeons and doves so making fun of them is good) Hate Sarah, Fiona and Denise. I don't know why, but I don't find most women all that amusing. Well apart from Jean Kitson, but thats different. Danny Bhoy's voice was irriating me just because it didn't seem to fit him you know how you get this image of a person before you actually meet them (like you have talked over net or on phone) and then they don't look or sound like you thought they would. Well thats him ![]() I wasn't watching GUD properly cause I've heard the song about 4 times now, but I must admit I went "WTF?" when they bleeped it. Even my work mate Karen commented on it this morning to me. Wil GET NEW MATERIAL!!!!! I haven't seen a show of his in ages, I don't watch Glasshouse but I had still heard it all before.... Little Norman was cute ![]()

Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 4 | anyone else get an 'all-singing, all dancing' vibe to gala this year? wee bit too much filler for my liking. Thought Magda did pretty well as host, altho i think host is a bit too strong a term. Loved Howard, stoked get to go and see him! Come on Gud obssessees, what was the damned bleeped bit?!?! i know it was some sort of legalities thing, but i cant for the life of me remember the line! SSSSSSSAAAAAARRRRRRAAAAAAAHHHH!!!! Love her gear, heehee sky-sharks. Shcneedles gave me the shits, much agreement with whoever said that talking mimes are worse Lano and Woodley cracked me up, even their CAA ad thingy 'people...' really liked Daniel Kitson, loves how he explains everything, cracks me up and im not sure why, like the bit with the railway tracks 'you might think that was improvised, but it wasnt' and liked Danny Bhoy, was kinda cool, cos he had worked half his wine tour bit at Adelaide but finished it off in time for the gala. what a clever lad. Was really unimpressed with Wil, particularly as his new show IS a new show with new material. I suppose thats why he doesnt want to 'waste' it on a national audience all at once. Liked Adam Hills, but as i saw his show at fringe, not shocking. Missed the dancing boys ![]() i thought maria bamford was good, she made me laugh out loud, cant remember which bit, but i like her delivery. not the best Gala i've ever seen, but quite good overall. Made me excited again for comfest!

| MOSHer | Hehe for Anthony Menchetti *shrugs* I laughed the most when I saw the GNW Moon back with the much missed gaffer tape stuck all over it. What is really dissapointing me is the finallies. After the Scardies it has just been fucked up. Like last year Gud and Tripod should have swapped places. Some of the comedy has been ok, but yeah i think we should get a whole new line up! Everybody keeps on telling me that Gud is getting better. From all the TV crap I have seen, it is just that. | ||

| MOSH Regular | Tripod were really good, I didn'tknow Scod could sing that high so I was gaping at the screen for a while. You wouldnt believe it. There was a power blackout at my place just after danny bhoy (who was very good, even though I'd seen it in his show) and I spent about half an hour fuming round the house, bashing into things in complete blackness. Managed to catch the last half hour at a friend's place. Lano and Woodley were fantastic, I love their stuff, they're just always so amusing. I really liked Chris Addison as well, I've prefered his stuff from earlier gala's but I just think he's so damn funny and well..cute. | ||

Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 5 | even if some of the stuff was old, i still laughed out loud... mainly at howard read. actually, and second to tripod, sarah kendall got my biggest laugh with her '2004!!! OH MY GOD!!! THAT'S IMPOSSIBLEEEE!!!" hahahaa... ahh.. gold... So don't get why they keep putting Fiona O'Loughlin on TV. like, sure, i've laughed at her a couple of times, but honestly.. wtf is she gonna do when her kids grow up and she runs out of funny things that THEY do to talk about? Magda was... well.. i dunno, i kinda fast-forwarded through her cos she pisses me off. Meshel was lovely, loved Danny Bhoy. always love Lano and Woodley, even if i've seen it before, that bit is so well done that it still cracks me up. Akmal's spiderweb thing was far too true. and Chris addison, though i love him, only made me laugh a couple of times. though i am sick, so maybe i'll laugh tomorrow thinking about it cos my brain is on delay. p.s - chris addison+scruffiness=HOOOooOOooOOoTttttt *pants* and yes. scod is getting hotter every year ![]()

Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 7 | From SMH's Spike Fat a four-letter word All the cuss words made it past the censors during Sunday's telecast of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala, but there was one seemingly innocuous song lyric that Channel Ten smothered with bleeps. In a song by the trio GUD about someone called "Rene(e)", Paul McDermott and his musical henchmen swore like pirates and accused their subject of being "fat" more than 10 times. But in one line, three of their words were clumsily censored even though a lip-reading audience could see they weren't swearing. The offending lyric, according to GUD's keyboard player, Cameron Bruce, related to Gordon Wood and the untimely death of his model girlfriend Caroline Byrne. But the boys weren't sure what all the fuss was about. The stockbroker Rene Rivkin has never been part of the investigation into Byrne's death, Bruce said, and the song was not about him, anyway, but "an ode to Renee Zellweger".
