I saw Demetri Martin in Edinburgh in 2003, the year he won the Perrier. He did a late night BBC show that had a different lineup every night. The night I went there was Demetri, Danny Bhoy plus some guy who was so incredibly bad that the crowd turned feral on him, which was fun in itself. And the MC was Rob Rouse, so it was a pretty good show all in all.

It wasnt Dan Antopolski, was it? The amount of times I've seen him die in the arse over there...

I wonder if Jack Dee will ever come back to Melbourne... *sighs hopefully*

No, it was a little bloke called Paul Foot. I noticed that he had a show at last year's EdFringe. Couldn't believe he was still around the traps if the show I saw was anything to go by...

Paul's been described as a 'marmite' comedian - loved by some, openly loathed by many. Most reviews I've read on him say that there's *something* there but apparently he still manages to alienate almost his entire audience every time. But he has won the 'Open Mic' and 'BBC New Act' awards, and he was a 'Perrier Best Newcomer' nominee.

The scuttlebut is: 20 mins Paul = good, 1hr Paul = hmmmmmm .....

Boof went and saw Paul Foot do an hour show in Edinburgh last year. I don't remember there being any positive comments made afterwards... fortunately I managed to avoid seeing him by attending John Oliver and Andy Zaltzmans' show on that night instead.

That's weird. My Lampshade brought all the boys to the yard.

Is a Marmite comedian the UK equivalent of a Vegemite comedian? Paul Foot can be great if the crowd go for him, but if they don't he has no way back, and doesn't seem interested in going after them.
