REBEL WILSON in ‘Confessions of an Exchange Student’

“a star on the rise” - Daily Telegraph

“Rebel Wilson is a comedy prodigy…a female equivalent of the Farrelly brothers (There's Something About Mary) or the Weitz brothers (American Pie)” - The Sun Herald

Rebel Wilson is one of Australia’ brightest young comic talents. Rejected from her jazzercise troupe for apparently being too ‘experimental’ with her choreography, she now prepares to again fit into a leotard to launch her new comedy show, “Confessions of an Exchange Student” on Melbourne audiences.

Based on Rebel Wilson’s real life near death experiences in South Africa, this brand new comedy show, ‘Confessions of an Exchange Student’ tells the story of a girl who is flying the flag for Australia and the uproarious encounters she faces on a daily basis during this exotic and exciting adventure.

Having trained locally at ATYP and NIDA and at Second City Television in the United States, Rebel Wilson has quickly found a place for herself in the Australian entertainment industry, working both on stage and on television and is recognised for her sassy, rude, exciting and hilarious delivery. Her irresistible enthusiasm on stage and her unique knack for quirky characterizations has been noted by critics and audiences alike and the Sunday Telegraph has predicted for Rebel, “an undoubtedly brilliant future”.

In 2002, Rebel Wilson wrote and starred in the sell out hit plays, ““The Westie Monologues” , performed at the Sydney Fringe Festival, the Belvoir Street Theatre and also the Paramatta Riverside Theatre and also “Spunks” at the SBW Stables Theatre in Sydney. Each show received rave reviews and were huge successes. In that same year, Rebel was a state semi-finalist in Raw Comedy in association with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival as well as appearing as a special guest at “The Big Laugh Comedy Festival 2002 Gala Opening Night”.

Since that time, Rebel Wilson has become a well known face on Australian television with appearances on the SBS program “Pizza” as ‘Toula’ and as ‘Jen’ in the “Rachel and Jen on the Lounge” campaign for “Australian Idol.”

Rebel Wilson’s hilarious new show is guaranteed to take you on a cultural journey like no other!

Arrow The Age Review - Rebel Wilson

The Age
Reviewer Helen Razer
March 31, 2005
REBEL WILSON: CONFESSIONS OF AN EXCHANGE STUDENT
Melbourne Town Hall, until April 17
AN EXACTING mimic and a gifted physical comedian, Rebel Wilson employs a melange of dance, dour delivery and faux home movies to crack up her audience.
Preening like an egoistic pony, Wilson takes us on a breathless and volitionally self-involved tour of an adolescent psyche. Decked out in micro shorts and a deconstructed beehive, this chick does disaffected teen dodo to perfection. She's funny and apparently untamed by comic convention, but is a little confined by a lack of affection for her subject matter. It's all shade with no glimmer of light. As Wilson's poise develops, however, she might very well emerge as a unique comedic force.
