If you tell a joke in the forest, but nobody laughs, was it a joke?

I've heard names on the grapevine but as far as I know the official media release still hasn't gone out. I'm not gonna jump the gun so I'm not saying anything until MICF does ...

2006 BRIAN McCARTHY MEMORIAL MOOSEHEAD AWARD RECIPIENTS

The Brian McCarthy Memorial Moosehead Committee are happy to announce the Recipients for 2006. This is the 20th year that the Mooseheads have supported and encouraged artists to create new and daring comedy shows. The Mooseheads were established in 1987 in memory of Brian McCarthy – a local producer, promoter and performer who was tragically killed in a car accident at the age of 23. Since 1987, the Mooseheads have supported shows by artists such as Lano & Woodley, Judith Lucy, Corinne Grant, Rachel Berger, Anthony Morgan, The Empty Pockets, Meshel Laurie, Adam Richard, The 4 Noels & Scott Brennan.

This year, The Moosehead Awards have joined forces with THE COMEDY CHANNEL to include in the grant package THE COMEDY CHANNEL Director’s Grant. THE COMEDY CHANNEL has generously provided funds for a director for each recipient show. This extends the opportunity for the performers to concentrate on developing the show and bring you the punter an even more innovative, exciting new show.

And the recipients are:
Damian Callinan has Spaznuts,
Penny Tangey – Kathy Smith Goes to Maths Camp and
Richard McKenzie – ANZAC.

Damian will be sharing with us the story of his “Spaznuts”. From the age of six Damian suspected there was something a little different about him. A series of visits to a specialist who tells you, “If you don’t have an operation you won’t be able to have babies when you get married” will do that. An enquiry into what it means to be infertile in a fertile world.

Penny will introduce us to a dear friend and mathematical genius Kathy Smith as she negotiates all the tensions of the Concentrated Extended Acceleration Maths Camp. Will our Year 9 mathematical hero find the formula to get the boy? (C’mon she’s 15 years old, of course there’s a boy.) All the emotional highs & lows inevitable when a group of 300 adolescents, no matter how nerdy, get together.

Richard’s great Uncle charged the fortified position at Beersheba during WW 1 on horseback with nothing but an 18-inch bayonet. The battle was later made famous in the movie The Charge Of The Lighthorsemen. Richard once ate at a Bangkok restaurant against the advice of his Lonely Planet. In this show Richard will plunder his family’s rich history of men in the armed forces, juxtaposing it with the artsie-fartsie pursuits of he & his brothers.

All three shows will be presented during the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2006.

If you tell a joke in the forest, but nobody laughs, was it a joke?
