Superband 16th April

So how was it? What's the news on the new "laid back" format. Who was on?, what did they sing? and who were the stand-outs?

I didn't go but I've heard people complaining that there was no dance floor.

People loved dancing at Superband.

In and of itself it was a good night but it was NOT superband. Superband involves crazy dancing and should be on after the comedy.

But I won't complain too much as long as they do clear the dancefloor for the second half like they promised they would next week. I was quite pleased that so many people went "there is no way we're not dancing to eye of the tiger and 500 miles!" and all ran down the front to dance in the tiny, tiny space *G*

Tim's great in the band, the horn section will be sadly missed, and a second guitar might help, but the lounge style is interesting, and lounge versions of some songs are hilarious.

I'm torn. I liked it for itself but I can't quite forgive them for replacing superband with it.

I also heard that some people were pissed off that there was no comedy before it so they walked out.

Yeah, it was a very different feel. It just seemed so much more sedate. Late year I rolled home at 4am pickled as a newt, with sore feet and reeking of cigarette smoke. This year I was home at 1.15am, stone cold sober and smelling fresh as a daisy. I had to curl up on the couch with a book for a couple of hours before I felt even remotely tired!

I heard a few people complain about the lack of comedy and I think a dancefloor will certainly help next week.

Yes, I think a lot of people would have walked if they hadn't just paid to get in. I mean, I can understand them wanting to finish earlier on a Sunday night (considering what time superband NORMALLY finishes) but that's why superband should be Saturday, not Sunday. So there's time for comedy and craziness and such.

Wow, that sounds really disappointing! Were there any highlights?

Oh, it was good, just not what we'd expected. Adam Hills did a lounge version of Blister in the Sun that was mildly confusing but quite funny cause he couldn't keep from rocking out a bit at the end *G* There was a country version of Smells Like Teen Spirit, and the boys did Mustang Sally.

Dancing at the end was fun, especially since by doing that we gave them a teensy bit of a hint that there should probably BE a dancefloor *G*

If they don't remove the tables next week then just kick 'em over

Last night at Wes Snelling's "Girls Get All The Good Bits", the door staff were advising punters that it was predominantly a music show rather stand up. Although Ethel Chop did some well received material before belting out a tune!
