ooh yeah that one looks cool too. What is it about the smooth hair and the toothbush moustache that makes anyone look like hitler *shudders*

I'm not syaing they should have had it in german I just think it's really funny that in these movies they usually talk in their normal accents.

BTW Robert Carlylse should never be allowed near a Russian accent Die another day is the only time I have not liked him or thought he couldn't act

There wouldn't have been much point to putting it all in German - I suspect that either way, it won't be legally available in Germany. Understandably, they'd rather not be reminded of that time in their country's history.

I did see that, but what do you mean "done on purpose"?

He likes taking the piss out of other shows, I guess.

I only watched bits of it (Hitler)... I didn't really like it (I watched Goodbye Mr Chips instead on Sunday night... bad movie/remake, but I cried anyhow). I don't think 'humanising' Hitler was a good idea, but nor is 'demonising' him either. I don't know, maybe I'm just a spoilsport, I think it would be better for people to learn about Hitler (I'm guessing that some people who watched it wouldn't have known some of the factual stuff in it) from history books, not telemovies.

I didn't see any parts involving Hitler doing orations or anything like... they did get Carlyle to do a scene like that, didn't he? *whacks self over head* It's four hours long, I'm sure they could have fit it in somewhere. Was he any good? Seeing as that was kind of Hitler's strong point to begin with...

...but we are not stupid pooeys, so let's rejoice...

i watched about 35 mins of it at the start of the first ep, but i didn't like it so i just stopped. what got me was that, from all accounts that i've read, Hitler was supposed to be well educated, urbane/charming and (although completely twisted in his ideas) able to make friends & allies and gather people to him and his politics, in this he just seemed like a sulky boy and a moody, nasty and (of course) evil man. i usually like Robert Carlyle, but i didn't in this, and i didn't really like the show overall either

I'm going to be in the minority and say the lack of a german accent threw me on occasions. It meant that it didn't really distinguish the English from the German and even a faint accent can't be that hard.

When I saw Cabaret I thought the German accents really accentuated the drama in the play. German accents sound so aggressive and these actors must be good enough to be able to act with an accent.

Robert Carlye was so damn convincing though, he made Hitler look so ratlike.

Sean Connery - The Hunt for Red October. Scottish actor playing Russian submarine captain without even a hint of an attempt at a Russian accent. Great movie, and you tend to ignore the fact that he's supposed to have a Russian accent.
Not to mention...

Kevin Costner as Robin Hood in Prince of Thieves
Sean Connery as King Richard in Prince of Thieves
Sean Connery as Ramieres in Highlander
(Actually, Sean Connery in damn near every movie he's ever made.)

I'm sure I'll come up more later.

*But I still like these movies.*

I have to admit, I was hoping for a little less politics and a bit more "random acts of psychotic behaviour".

It wasn't too bad though. I liked the idea of Hitlers moustache being a marketing ploy very clever.

What was he making his niece do in the field? The walking...walking....STOP! was very odd.

I read in FHM the other day that Hitler was taking anti-gas pills because of the effects of his vegetarianism on his body. Trouble is that the pills contained the poison strycnine, which inflated his aggressive behaviour.
This may all be a load of crap, but I like to think that World War II was all caused by a damn hippy refusing to eat meat
