You might want to look at the university in relation to what it is that you want to study...

Fornicators, freaks and sodomites - Transsexuals and transvestites - Homo, hetero or confused - Bisexual, used and abused - The perverse litany is here - Sadomasochistic bondage gear - Sex is sin, sin is fun - Come one, come all, in the end just come!

As Kali said, you need to look into the various Universities in relation to what you want to study. I looked into Qld unis a while back and none of them were good for me.

Obviously it'll depend what you want to do, but this is my (vague) opinion.

SUBJECT/CLASS WISE:

* USQ-Toowoomba (where I come from)= I don't actually go there but I know people who do and it's meant to be pretty good for bussiness and IT kinda things. Plus it has a really good performing arts programe.

*UQ- Good for acedemic-y kinda stuff like science etc. Has a good rep and you (may) get to mix with research scientist or people also studying in their field for whatever field you want to do.

*QUT- really good for artsy and creative kinda of stuff (also has science and all that rest of it too).

~~~~~~~~~
Now purly for my little story.... I am actually living at UQ. First semester I did science at UQ, I really didn't like it and I found alot of the people a bit uptight, kinda scary and boring. Plus I realised there was no way in hell that I was going to be able to put up with science for 2.5 more years.
This semester I am now doing a Bachelor of creative industries at QUT. It's taking a bit of getting used to but I'm liking it alot more. The lecturers and tutors I have are all really nice and approachable, they give you their email addresses so you can ask them anything etc etc. The people and the campus in general is much friendlier and relaxed. The subjects also tend to be more 'job' directed then the artsy ones that were offered at UQ (hence the change.... I know this cause my best friend is doing almost the same subjects but at UQ) they encourage you to try get your writing published and will give you advice about where to send things etc.
Well hope that was a little bit of help.
USQ is good for Business. I'm doing a Bachelor of Business majoring in Tourism Management, but the subjects I get to study are pretty awesome. Next semester they're introducing Sports Marketing, which is what I want to get into, and they also have like Events Management and stuff like that. As I posted before, go to www.usq.edu.au for more info!
[edited bit]: I forgot to mention that USQ is well-known for their distance education program, we won an award for it! Last semester I was studying Marketing with Nathan Hauritz, who was in South Africa playing cricket for Australia in the World Cup! w00t! [/end edited bit]
*puts her oar in*
Okay, for business, QUT is probably one of the best. It's probably the most recognised business degree in QLD and has zillions of industry connections, plus plenty of chances for overseas study, work experience etc etc. However, it's also the largest faculty in Australia, so if you don't mind sharing lectures with 300 other people, you're fine. I've done one semester of a business degree and I enjoyed it a lot, the facilities are lovely and shiny and we have zillions of computers dedicated just to us swipey cards and all...
Erm... law... UQ or QUT are the best, but not the only ones. They're also the hardest to get into, I believe it was a 3 or a 4, OPwise this year.
Creative writing... there is a QUT Creative Industries Fine Arts course dedicated to writing (you have to interview and submit a portfolio or something like that), but apparently there isn't a big intake, something like 40 students. Maybe an arts course at UQ, they've got good writing subjects in there (my friend is doing one).
If you like shiny universities, QUT is good, UQ also good (if you like walking long distances) and Griffith is a hole. A nice hole. Um... QUT is right in the city and they've got shuttles every 15minutes to the other campuses. UQ has shuttles running all the time from city as well.
For more info... I'd recommend the uni open days, or the career market days, but they've all come and gone in the last month, so I'm guessing you probably attended? If not, careers advisors, or ring the unis directly and they can often help.
My experience is sort of limited to the two big QLD universities, I don't know about the small ones. ACU is good for education and nursing... buy the QTAC book... also, the Good Universities Guide, they've got useful stuff in them (from newsagents).
Long post. No more now.
...but we are not stupid pooeys, so let's rejoice...
Thankyou everyone for your lovely helpful posts
Going to open days and so forth gives an insight somewhat, but hearing from people's experience is very helpful.
hey this is slightly OT, but I noticed that in here people were talking about queensland universities, so I was wondering.
If anyone is a student at QUT could you please email me or send me a message please.
If your in year 12 this year you should have gotten a QTAC guide. It should be helpful. If you don't have one I think they're available from newsagents. And, again if your still in school, the guidance officers can be helpful, they have lots of booklety things about different courses.
