I am so FUCKING offended by that.
A while ago my cousin died of suicide, and up til then I pretty much gave no acknowledgement of teenage suicide, cos you know, it always happens to someone else. But this hit home, it hit home HARD. Since then I do volunteer work in my spare time, I do counselling at the local community centre, I give out as much as I can afford to with for kids with problems. Am I selfish? I wouldn't have done this before his death, but now I give all I have to stop others.
Reeve could have sat in his chair wallowing in self-misery about how life was too harsh on him, but instead he goes out to give recognition to people who have suffered the same fate. He used his fame for a good cause, and only people who are selfish inconsiderate little pricks with no empathy whatsoever would hold this against him.

Even if he'd pumped money into the research and withdrawn from the public gaze there wouldn't be any cause to hold anything against him.

Ok, so I'm about a week behind and have only just read this. What a prick! Is it more acceptable to shit all over able bodied people than cripples? What a question! I'm my opinion it's not really ok to shit on anyone. The author of this is really really sad.

Most people don't really care about something until it has touched them personally...that's just a fact of life. It doesn't mean people don't care about something, just that once you've had some experience with it it's a stronger bond...or something like that. Reeve used his celebrity to do something, create awareness and conduct research...what has the author of this rant done lately? I don't see anything wrong with using someones fame for a good cause - better than scabbing your way through life making millions and paying for nothing...better the money and time goes somewhere useful.

Even if there is increased terrorist activity, I'm hoping that even a more extreme Palestinian leader will at least have some control over that activity. Then Palestine and Israel would have something real to talk about, ie. a Palestinian leader could actually deliver a cease-fire if they were in control of the terrorist acts, unlike Arafat.
