Graham Kennedy: The King of Television**(60*mins , Rated: PG)
Genre: Documentary
A unique performer with a rare ability, Graham Kennedy is simply known as "the king" and the kingdom he ruled was Australian television. This special traces Kennedy's early days of radio and the tentative days of early In Melbourne Tonight to the triumphs of the Graham Kennedy national shows. Kennedy's amazing fast wit, incisive sarcasm and shrewd reading of social attitudes ensured that no other personality came close to matching his style, charisma and power.

"... The show was about an American country boy who was suddenly given a ridiculous amount of power and had no idea what to do with it. Gee, like that would ever happen." Adam Hills

Ray Martin interviewed Derryn Hinch tonight and gave him an absolute hammering. Apparently Graham Kennedy had an AIDS test about a month ago and it came up negative.
Hinch refused to either change his view or apologise.

The Tele is reporting Hinch may be sacked.
Mystified as to why that rates a potential sacking, given what goes on in radio-land.
Hinch obviously believes it's true, but I can't really see how he would have come to that belief. It's a peculiar claim, even for him.

Also a little baffled at some of the outrage expressed here. It's not okay to say something that might be untrue about Kennedy when he's already dead, but Kylie having a potentially life threatening condition is fair game for outright ridicule?

Kylie's life was never in danger. If I thought it was I'd have never have made even the slightest snide remark about her. And Kylie's management and friends made her condition extremely public. It will also help her career along marvelously. *coughcoughDeltacoughcough*
And it's not like Hinch is trying to make a joke out of Kennedy's sexuality - he thinks he's reporting serious journalistic news. At least, that's the excuse he's giving.

I fail to see any similarities between the two situations.

Hmmmm. And interesting reporting it was too. They don't accredit this 'news' to anyone, they don't even say whether it came from anyone or whether it's just their opinion stated as a vague fact. I suspect some 'Fox News'-style "fact" reporting here.

Here's a report that claims that Hinch reported on radio that Kennedy had died from AIDS when he'd already been told that Kennedy had been tested for it and came up negative.

It also goes into the "proof" of Kennedy's condition that Hinch is using to back up his belief.

'Graduate' star Anne Bancroft dies
From correspondents in New York
June 08, 2005
From: Agence France-Presse

AMERICAN actress Anne Bancroft, best known for her role as the vampish Mrs Robinson in the 1967 movie The Graduate has died. She was 73.

John Barlow, a spokesman for her husband, the comic actor, director and producer Mel Brooks, said Bancroft died on Monday of uterine cancer at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City.
Born Anna Maria Louisa Italiano in The Bronx, Bancroft began her film career just as the studio contract system was coming to an end.

She made her big screen debut in Don't Bother to Knock in 1952, and 10 years later she won a best actress Oscar for her role as Annie Sullivan, the teacher of the deaf, mute and blind Helen Keller in The Story of My Life.

But her signature role remains that of Mrs Robinson in The Graduate in which she coldly seduced her daughter's future boyfriend played by Dustin Hoffman, who also made his name with the film.

In 1964, Bancroft married Brooks, whom she had met on a talk show. The couple acted together in Brooks's 1983 remake of To Be or Not to Be.
