yup it was because people assosiated charlie with the enemy that it was chanved, the oompa loompas were also changed to be "PC" because orignally they were black pygmys.

Yes you could get wonka bars at the time of the movie, as well as a special chocolate factory toy which you could make your very own oompa loompas, charlies and wonkay scrumdidlyumptious bars, the kit even had it's own golden tickets. This kit can be worth anythng up to $700 to todays collectors.

That poster makes it look more like a horror flick than a kid's movie.

As much as I love Johnny Depp, Gene Wilder is so entrenched in that role that it's just not going to seem right.

i didn't think the wait for it was sooooooooo long. i don't think poster's all the great actually. i wonder if there's a trailer, or if it's going to come out soon.

Looks interesting.

From what they seem to be saying they want people to compare it to the book not the other movie so I'll wait until I've actually seen it to make judgement.

Though I'm such a little fan girl when it comes to Depp I'm sure i'll cope watching it even if it's not great..... which I'm sure it will be.

New Charlie and the Chocolate Factory!

Wow, I saw it today and let me just say I was a skeptic about whether it would be good or not and it is.............*drum rolls*.............*builds suspense* .................*cause you care what I think about it*....................*HA* IT IS AWESOME! I loved it soo much and let me say I am a huge fan of the first one but the second one is just like wow!

Although I still like Gene Wilder as Wonka but Depp does seem to make him more insane which was equally awesome....

Anyways thats just my mini-rant!

I rewatched the Gene Wilder version tonight, and i had completely forgotten how weird Wonka was. If Depp makes him even more insane, thats a whole lotta insane-ness. I haven't seen the new one yet. I was so excited about it, but then when I saw the previews for it I was sort of disappointed. I think they made it look kind of lame. But i hope i'm wrong. I love Depp and Burton, so i'll still give it a fair go.

hmmm... I have such major issues with this!! (to the point where i REALLY need a life!)

I love the first movie. So very very much.
And hmm... Taking nothing away from Depp or Burton (I think if anyone could pull it off, burton could) I just feel its gonna be lacking. Jack Alberton (spl!) is BRILLIANT as Grandpa joe in the orig, and well, I think enough has already been said about Gene Wilder...
Although, at least this time around they have a British Charlie - AS HE SHOULD BE! And, true, Roald Dahl was against the first movie being made, and it did stray - A LOT - from the book. Regardless of this however, nobody can deny that the first is a CLASSIC - I mean, the movie was made in 71 and its still LOVED. (and the oompa loompa cartwheels are PRICELESS!!) Also, I've heard that Wonka doesn't sing in this version - which means no "If You Want To View Paradise"... so shattered!!! :p and so many classic lines... 'Help. Police. Murder." "The suspense is terrible. I hope it'll last" "A little madness now and then, is treasured by the wisest men" ahhhhh... if they aren't in the newie I'll be so disappointed!!
And the boat ride scene. this I'm curious about. The original is BRILLIANT - but I'm sure they wouldn't get away with showing chickens having their heads cut off these days. (Damn classification laws!)
But then, who knows. Theres points for this one as well - sticking to the book more being a HUGE one. (damn the orig is sooooo far from it!!!) I'm still debating if I'll see it or not, as I don't think I'd manage to watch it with an open mind.

Straying from my opinion, read the WORST review for it the other day - Worst written that is. It said such things as the book was "light and fluffy" and that the original movie had Gene Wilder playing a lovable and caring Wonka. *ahem* Me thinks a certain reviewer didn't do any homework. Its no secret that Roald Dahl loved scaring kiddies!! HAHA!

yeah... I'll stop rambling about Willy Wonka now. I did warn you all that I had issues!

Wouldn't it be nice if the world was chocolate?, No it f**king wouldn't because you'd melt!!! Cameron Knight

This is my brain, and its fine. It's where I spend the vast majority of my time. Its not perfect, but its mine.. Tim Minchin

FUCK I LOVE ORANGE...

A lot of those great lines weren't from the book, they were from other books "The suspense is terrible. I hope it'll last" is Oscar Wilde and there was a whole lot of Shakespeare.

I think they deviated from the book in this one just as much as the first movie.

Saw it the other night and loved it.

Tim Burton is just incredibly artistic - every scene has his own unique, colourful touch. The use of music was great, too.
I always liked the original, but was a bit disappointed with how it strayed from the book. For me, this version gets much closer to the overall theme of the book and Dahl's darker sense of humour.

The Augustus scene is pretty similar to the original, Violet getting blown up to a blueberry is clever, the squirrel scene with Veruca going down the garbage shute in the nut room is much better (and the squirrels are cute!), and I loved the 2001 Space Odessey reference in the tv room - a bit over kid's heads, but very clever!

Some parts still differ from the book, but overall I absolutely loved it. The kids in the main roles are all great and I really enjoyed Depp's interpretation of Wonka (not everyone will, I guess), but he wasn't as creepy as I expected!

Anyway, that's my 2c worth!!

MUMBLER!

Yes, I quite enjoyed the new version, too.
Didn't think much of the song bits. They just don't really fit in, in my opinion.
Don't really get how anyone thought Depp's Wonka was a Jackson impersonation. Jackson is far from the only weird adult. And Wonka doesn't have an unhealthy fascination with children, just candy.

There were a couple of nods to the adults in the script, though I can't remember any specific ones.

Was amusing to see Dooku Christopher Lee in it. But that could be just me.

Overall, I thought it was a pretty good movie. It's not one I'd watch over and over again, but it wasn't a waste of my time, like some other recent movies have been.
