The New "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" now with added spoilers

In what has got to be the most exciting 2 seconds of my day, I heard that Tim Burton is directing a remake of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Has anyone else heard about this?
Is anyone else as excited as me?

If anyone has any news like casting or release dates, (or wants to share inarticulate squeals of joy with me) feel free

I hope Burton doesnt fuck it up though- hes a great director, but if he harms Charlie I dont think Ill be able to find it in my heart to forgive him, even if he did direct The Nightmare Before Christmas .

The press keep telling me what it is that “I’m doing”
I’m so thankful, without them I wouldn’t know
What I was up to.

I just heard about it now, from you, and it sounds very cool.

The most up to date source seems to be IMDb, and they've got Johnny Depp down to play Willy Wonka, but apart from that, it's just basic details there.

"You forgot one very important thing, mate... I'm Captain Willy Wonka..."

"But why's the chocolate gone?"

*snort*

Although I'm failing to see why there needs to be a remake of this movie at all... and Gene Wilder owned Willy Wonka.

yeah i heard about this quite a while ago

there has been a lot of stupif reumours, ie brad pitt and jennifer aniston!!

but it's most likely johnny will play the lead simply because it's rare for burton to make a film without him! (yes i know there are exceptions of course!)

i dunno, it could be interesting as long as tim burton makes it very tim burton like, ie a lot darker, if it's just a light bubbly fun one like the first (which is great, so dont' get me wrong) then yes there's hardly need for a remake.

It'll certainly be interesting! i mean, it can't be any worse that Planet of the Apes

and hey lainey what's wrong with Edward Scissorhands??? That was Depp's pivotal role and Tim Burtons defining movie!!

hmm I loved the book and I still love to watch the original film which had its bizarre and dark moments *shudders at the chickens head being chopped off*. Would be interesting to see what Burton does to it and it would be nice to see a good film after the wobbly stuff i've seen this weekend.

Thanks for the article Munchkin

Omg! Wow-- Willy Wonka the stage musical, that would rock my universe!

I always knew that Dahl hated the first film, but I never quite figured out why. I know they took the original script he wrote and added alot of stuff, but its pretty true to the book in parts, and the stuff they added /took out made it suitable for the screen. Was that the only reason? I get the feeling there was probably more to it-- does anyone know?

As for Depp as Wonka, well, right now I cant really see the part suiting him, but Depp has a lovely habit of surprising me, so Id really be inerested to see if he can pull it off.

As for Wonka becoming a 'successful franchise' (- Munchkins article) , well, I dunno about that Define franchise? I mean, does that mean sequels and spin offs? Or are they talking just toys and the musical?
I wonder if Wonka's is a sucess they'll do the GreatGlass Elevator too?
Although, to be honest, Elevator used to scare the shite out of me as a kid- I dont know why- something to do with those space worms I reckon

The Knid's

Mmmm, when I read that as a young boy I remember them as being quite scary too, and ever since I've always preferred 'Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator' to the original

I think it could be interesting to see a darker adaption of the Chocolate Factory, there was certainly the potential within the book for some very dark moments, as well as the humour and morals contained within.

Mmmm :p

Fate…and Johnson and Friends…brought us together.

I can't believe...my account still exists!

oh man, I'm just looking forward to see who Burton will cast as Veruca Salt!
If Fairuza Balk or Thora Birch weren't as grown-up (I was gonna say old, but thats a bit rude) either of them would be perfect.

But Johnny Depp as Wonka.... ahhh... unbelievable.
