It can be downloaded from www.napster.com, but is only compatible with Windows XP and Windows 2000 at the moment. What do you think about the new trend towards paying for digital music? Will you miss CDs if they become obsolete? Will Napster 2.0 be successful? I'm turned off by the fact it isn't run by the Shawn Fanning, the man who started Napster. Though it was illegal then, I don't like that he isn't leading the legitimate format of the company, and it seems like the record companies just cashed him up and made him "an advisor to Napster 2.0 on the user experience" before cashing in on the name.

It probably will be successful, if iTunes Music Service is anything to go by. They had several million downloads in the first few days of operations, and that was only available on Mac then as well. Now iTunes is available on Windows, it will be interesting to see how much competition there is between the two, considering the prices are virtually the same... The other thing with iTunes Music Service when it was released, and i think now, is that it's only available to US customers. Not sure about Napster though.

I think that perhaps the ability to pay over the internet is restricted to some people so a system where you could perhaps buy a card with cash like mobile recharge and credit your account would make it even more popular. However speaking as someone suffering slow and unreliable internet access due to poor country infrastructure, you'll always get the whole song if you buy a cd
