Smacktard of the day: John Howard.

After Mark Latham announced that he would strip down the excessive superannuation benefits awarded to the PM and senior ministers should he be elected later this year, people started asking if Howard would make the same concession.
He retaliated and said that if Labor were serious about ending public cynicism, they'd cut back the rent they charge to a department that rents office space in Centenary House in Canberra.

Ummm, what department? Never heard of it. Don't care what rent they're paying.
We know about your ludicrously over inflated super package, smacktard. That you deflected the question with something irrelevant to the issue is not at all surprising, though, considering the whole country knows you will most likely retire some time after winning the next election.

Gee, I wonder why you won't agree to the same cutbacks as Latham has promised?

Noooo, we're not near as cynical about Latham as we are about you, Bonsai. We're at least fairly certain Mark's never lied to us.
We know you have.

Smacktard! :P

Runner-up: The train drivers of Sydney who are currently on a go slow campaign and refusing to work any overtime.
Leaving aside the fact that trains run behind schedule even when you're driving recklessly fast over tracks you scream are unsafe (but only after an accident, mind, don't say anything beforehand!!) and leaving aside the fact that your workplace agreement says you must agree to some overtime...

One of your objections is to a safety device being installed that will help investigators work out the cause of problems after they've occured. It is similar to the "black box" incorporated into modern passenger planes, designed to record speed, voice chatter, etc.
Such a safety device will not have any effect on you if you are doing your job properly.

When you deliberately disable an existing safety measure because it's inconvenient for you, is it any wonder we don't trust you?

Stop bleating about privacy concerns. You are responsible for hundreds of lives on your train. To suggest that you should not be held accountable if you fuck up is atrocious. The safety device will record that you were doing your job just fine if an accident isn't your fault, so you have nothing to fear if you perform it properly.
That you are running scared does not instill confidence in your abilities. It makes me wonder whether the real reason there are so many problems is not the government at all, it's you.

Second runner-up is Figgus. Kazaa Lite was not a seperate system to Kazaa, so KL being 'killed' doesn't stop you downloading music.
This is not a music piracy forum, so asking us to help you pirate music is inappropriate.
A simple Google search will turn up plenty of music "sharing" programs, in any case.

Wow, you could almost start a Daily Smacktard Calendar, with that person *points* in an exciting new position each day, with an exciting new stupid expression on their face.

I'm in such a bad mood.
Someone have a go at me right now, so I can bite your knees off...

That is the biggest load of crock I have ever heard. I think that if they're going to cut religion out of the schooling system like that, they do it for everyone. That means no crosses, not even puny little ones.

If Muslims and Jews have to suffer [yes, and I don't use that word lightly, either] because of their beliefs, then so bloody-well should cross-toting Christians/Catholics whatever they call themselves these days.

I'm glad I'm not going to school in France... I'd hate to have take myself down off my cross everyday.

I'd like to second the smarktard vote for everyone involved in the fucked up Sydney trains at the moment.

15% of drivers have failed a test, which while I have no idea how they have failed, assume it has something to do with being at risk of heart attack and thus being at risk of dieing at the wheel.

I'd like to extend my smacktard award to all the heartless people who, over the years, have supplied the the failed drivers with excessive alcohol, fat and sugar laden foods and anything else that has turned the drivers into walking talking fatty bom-ba-lard-as.

ffs, normally it takes me 1.5-2hrs to get home. It took me 3 today. Trains just didn't show up. Trains came on platforms they weren't advertised to come on. Trains made un-timetabled stops, or just didn't stop where they were supposed to.

I may have to start driving to work again, but I have heard that the roads have been way fucked over the last two days. *sigh* maybe I can teach myself how to fly or something.

My un-smacktard award goes to the people at Citi Rail responsible for me getting a free weekly ticket next week, I get an extra $40 to spend on Saturday night now

Maybe the money should instead go to person trainers for the fat assed train drivers?

My smacktard of the day (well, the other day) is the frontman that the Whitehouse got to explain to the media that Georgi W didn't really go AWOL from the National Guard during the Vietnam conflict. (Heh. He got out of actually going to Vietnam by volunteering for the Ntional Guard, then they let him train to be a fighter pilot even though he got the lowest possible score for that field, and then he can't even be assed doing the work. And now he's starting his own wars.) Their proof? A document that had been photocopied so badly that it was inelligible.

And what proof do the other side have? Well, one guy has written an entire book about Georgie walking out on his duties, and Michael Moore has documented shitloads of stuff to back up the claim. And the Whitehouse expected a badly copied document to convince us otherwise ... instead, they've made it look like they're desperately trying to cover up a fuck up. Smacktards!

I wonder if you could get away with saying that you're wearing the cross as an ornament instead of a religious icon. I mean, you see people wearing all sorts of Celtic inspired jewellery even though they may not claim any sort of heritage. I wear a stylised pentagram because my boyfriend bought it and I think it's pretty, not 'cause I'm a witch/pagan/satan worshipper etc.

Following that line of thought, you could theoretically wear the headscarf because you say it flatters your features, or because you're allergic to sunlight etc. Make any sense?

It would be good if they could get away with doing that.

Unfortunately, as with everything these days, there would still be rules for one, and rules for the other. I could see them allowing people their crosses and other religious jewellery [the size of horses!!], but going 'OMG!!! Islamic Fundamentalism!!' at the scarves anyway.

my friend is really into being a major big goth and does everything she can to try and be the best goth she could possibly be *coughlameasscoughcough*

She wears a cross. Then she yells at catholics and raves on about how stupid religion is. Doesnt that defy the point of wearing a cross?
She also wears a bunch of egyptian ankhs, but i don't think she even knows what that means.

I think if she went to school in france and they made her be un-gothest, she'd leave the country...

Smacktard(s) of the day: (it was yesterday but it's in the paper this morning) The aboriginals of Redfern for turning Lawson St into something resembling the Middle East.
Okay, you allege the cops ran the kid off his bike where he was impaled on a fence? Perhaps some overzealous cops did do such a thing.
But how the fuck does that translate into throwing things at trains? Shops? Torching a non-police vehicle???
I hope there's lots of pictures of the faces of all the people involved in the riot so they can lock you up and you can rot in a cell for a while and consider just how smacktard-y it is to riot like this.

Ask yourselves - how does this encourage the average Australian to be sympathetic to other issues you insist we pay attention to? Your response to a version of an incident that does not match the official version is to generate mindless violence?
So, what, "police brutality" is... they accidently bumped into you once?

I'm going to if there's security camera footage of the incident and the cops are right. Bet you the aboriginals don't apologise, though. Probably say it's fake or some other smacktard-y reason to try and justify their actions.

Runner-up: Also the aboriginals, for being aboriginal and not asian so we can't giggle at the people saying they should be sent back to the country they came from.
