This is really sad... i've just seen harry potter for the third time. I've read all the books (a book per day over christmas) and have been spending my spare time playing quidditch on the website and researching the meaning of character names and coming up with theories on why things are happening, adn what could be coming in book 5 the order of the phoenix.

and i keep telling myself... ITS A FUCKING KIDS BOOK! I'm 25 - I'm too old to become obsessed over a kids book.

what do you guys think... i know i'm safe among fellow obsessive types (well some of you guys anyway).

Has anyone else read the books??? or am i alone in my sick "revert to my childhood" obsession???

lol...no I think you can like and be obsessed over anything you damn well please!! It maybe written for younger people, but whats stopping you from reading it? I am a fan too, but I am 16 and closer to the age catagory. I'm obsessed over many things, which makes me sad, but in the end, I am happy with what I like. And you should be too! Poetic huh?
So you keep playing that quidditch!!

I dont think it's sad, except maybe the bit at the end where you wanted to change your name to Hermione!

Well my brother's 32, and he's into Harry Potter.  As am I (me bring 20).  He actually passed the first three books on to me after he'd finished reading them (I bought the last one myself), but I'll have to give them back soon...

well i guess that's one upside of liking kids books.. they're cheap!!! I've not paid $11.95 for a book not on sale in years!

you should get Quidditch through the ages, and Magical beasts and where to find them. they're a bit of a laugh - only takes about an hour to read each one. THey were to raise money for comic releif apparently

My dad's in to Harry Potter, and he's 42! My mum's read them too, and she's the same age. I've read up to book 3 so far. I find it interesting, but I'm not obsessed by it. The only person who doesn't read the books in this house is my 10 year old brother...

I loooooooooooooooooove all things Harry Potter. I've read the books at least twice each, the earlier ones a few more times. I've seen the movie twice, and after reading your post I won't feel like such a weirdo if I go for a third time!

I'm addicted. I want to go to school with them and have wacky adventures.

if you like harry potter and need a giggle.. head over to the harry potter for grown ups site. Its american so naturally its way over the top and over analyses everything. these people have disected the books and have lots of interesting theories on why its being banned in so many schools in the US.

there is also some cool info on the next movie Harry potter and the chamber of secrets (christmas this year) on the comingsoon.com website including the news that KENNETH BRANAGH will be playing gilderoy lockhart *swoon

okay back to the real, adult world

*coughs* Is Harry Potter for grown-ups???

Harry Potter is for EVERYONE! *g*

If you don't believe me, talk to Katisha and get her to direct you to the Snape fan-sites she's discovered, where middle-aged women write filthy stories about the lanky-haired evil bastard...*shudders*

And anyway, the books are so amazingly well written, anyone can enjoy them. My aunt recommended them to my mother and me, and we both love them and the movie.

So maybe going to see the movie wearing a black cloak might have been going a bit far for someone in their 20s, but at least I wasn't wearing a Slytherin badge, unlike OTHERS I could name! *larfs*

Trust me, there is no shame in loving these books...I've read kids books, adults books, all sorts of stuff, and I can't think of many better written books in any genre or on any age level. They're stunning pieces of work, written about the sort of things children imagine, and that adults remember imagining, so they have a sort of nostalgic appeal for some.

And they're so good my mother actually managed to finish reading a book in less than a month because she couldn't stop reading them, and that has NEVER happened before! *larfs*

hmmm... smutty snape stories... must investigate!  I found a site of a crazed welsh girl who has a crush on oliver wood - the gryffindor quidditch captain *lol*

to quote my little sister about the possibility of having a crush on James Potter... "there's only one thing worse than having a crush on a fictional character, having a crush on a married, dead fictional character"

My sister is 27, and she is a leading author on the Harry/Hermione fanfic ring, and she has over 30 copies of the book (Aussie hardcover/paperback, American hardocver/paperback, French hardcover, Spanish hardcover, Aussie/American Philosopher's Stone special edition, etc...) in three languages. (I have 8 in two languages.) We've both seen the movie six times, and have limited edition rag dolls we brought back from the States. We both have Gryffindor backpacks and we're both going to buy some Hogwarts folders from Target (I actually need one for school). She has has nearly every piece of merchandise imaginable sent over by her friends in the States, and her friend's cousin made her a HP ball for our Xmas tree.
Is that obsessed enough? HP is for everybody! (except crazy Christian fundamentalists who burn books. That's a waste of good firewood!)

If Harry Potter is for not for grown ups, then kids today understand a great many adult concepts that one would not expect them to.

I have read the books about 4 times through (i'm nearly 21), My 32 year old sister recommended them to me after hearing the first one read to her son at school (this was about 3 months before the 4th book came out) and my 53 year old mother went out and bought the first one and gave it to me with raving reviews. My 26 year old sister and 35 year old brother also love it and i have gotten a great many friends into them as well. I've seen the movie 4 times (3 times within 2 weeks).

I am actually reading 'A Series of Unfortunate Events', based on 3 children who's parents are killed and house burnt down and are being passed from one nutty relative to another and everything that happens to them is bad. It's younger than Harry Potter but i'm really enjoying them.

there's backpacks??? where have I been!! I think i'm gonna have to play on the amazon website for a while!!!

I wonder if kids read the books on the same level adults do? I asked my sister (she's 15) and she reckons that when she first read philosopher's stone when it came out a couple of years ago, she enjoyed it, but had no idea how complex the story actually was.. and didn't get the constant connections bewteen things etc.

i guess there is something for everyone

I'm so excited because J.K.Rowling said there is going to be teenage romance in the next book between harry and Hermione. I love teenage romance...although I always thought there would be a thing between Hermione and Ron. They've got this angsty love-hate thing going on.

"Team leader doesn't mean anything mate."
"Excuse me, it means I'm leader of a team."
"No it doesn't - it's a title someone's given you to get you to do something they don't want to do for free. Right? It's like making a div kid at school milk monitor. Noone respects it."
"I think they do."
"No they don't Gareth."
"Er, yes they do, because if people were rude to me then I used to give them their milk last so it was warm."

Some guy in America did a review on the movie and complained that there were no minority groups (which is a load of shit) and that there was no sex which is unrealistic when it comes to teenagers...THEY'RE 11!!!!!!!
