SERENITY: In Cinemas Thurs 29th

Hi guys,

I know the trailer's been spoken about here before- but as the movie is growing near, I want to bring it all to your attention once again.

Serenity - the Major Motion Picture by Joss Whedon, born of Firefly - a cancelled TV show that should've been allowed to live on, is finally about to be opened to the world, and I need your help to make it a success.

if you like Joss's other work - Buffy, Angel, etc - then I guaran-damn-tee you should a) go buy the Firefly Box Set, and b) go see this movie (preferably in that order, but I'm not that fussy) It is, in my humble opinion, the most incredible and wonderous thing Joss has ever created.

you can find the trailers here:

http://www.apple.com/trailers/universal/serenity/

http://www.apple.com/trailers/univer...nity/trailer_2

please please please - take a leap, go see a movie you haven't really heard much about, don't just support the mainstream. I'll love you all forever.

I saw it yesterday. It was brilliant. Go see it.

is this allowed to be a spoiler thread? I guess not. It. Was. Awesome.
What all others have said.
If you feel yourself getting frustratd at excessive 'splosions and plot, and lack of character stuff, don't fret too much,
Yes, quite a good way to spend a couple of hours
And make sure you cheer Joss' name on the BIG SCREEN!!! aww he must have been so proud.
We (my mum and I) were surprised not to see many Buff crew on the credits as in tech crew, I thought there was more mixing between the shows, was I wrong?

Go see this movie. It's an absolute must. I've seen it four times already and will be seeing it agian tomorrow. It's absolutely brilliant but I can't say much that won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet. Feel like I should be wearing a hat but 'do yourself a favour' and check this one out.

I've been wearing my serenit t-shirts to work on friday's 'mufty day' for the last couple of weeks -

yes. I've now seen the movie 5 times, this weekend is when it really, really needs to get good crowds otherwise it won't last very long in cinemas.

p.s - dvd release is rumoured for 20th December.. mmm.. pretties..

I'll do my best to get people to see it. I've only seen it twice since it was released and once at a preview, so I've got some catching up to do.

Not pretty - Shiny!

'Mufti'.

I saw it 1.25 times tonight and both times the crowd was about 6 to 8 people. This was in the city centre cinema.

I'll do my best to support it! I have a free double pass to Serenity, but i almost dont want to use it... i feel like i'm stealing from Joss himself!
I'm seeing it for the 4th time tomorrow...

It was so great seeing it at the 2 advanced screenings i went to. Everyone clearly appreciated it for true brilliance. I've seen it only once since release, there were about 10 other people there... and none of them last when they should've grr....

sorry GM - this is the first place I've worked who've had mufti day, so I didn't know the spelling.

I saw it at 3 advanced screenings(including the very first one in sydney back in.. may, was it?.. mmm..) , on the opening night at gold class, and then again a couple of days later - I really wanted to see it again this weekend but was busy driving from melbourne to sydney and I don't think I'd be able to stay awake through it if I went tonight! so sleepy.

it's been getting so many great reviews, and in BIG publications...there's crap all else out at the moment so it SHOULD be doing better - but from reports it's not getting advertised on free-tv very much, which sucks... I'm concerned - but still proud of our lil baby. still makes me get all choked up seeing her on the big screen at the start - I know, I'm lame.

Saw it again tonight, good god its incredible.

It definitely has gotten some great reviews, but one that I wasn't particularly impressed with was from Empire magazine.

Taken from Empire (October 2005)

"Taking his cues from the Star Trek films, Buffy creator Joss Whedon simplifies his complex and somewhat nerdy space-Western series Firefly into a rollicking space-opera (think Star Wars on a budget) that takes the best elements of the TV show (snappy dialogue, likeable characters) and shifts them into a broader, more action-based story than the show would have tackled"

"His trademark sparkingly hip dialogue is present, as are his well-hewn neurotic characters. He also manages to squeeze a lot of believable CGI out of his limited coffers. Sure, the acting isn't going to set anyone's career on a course for the Oscars, but the B-grade cast inhabit their various skins well, and the one-liners prove to be a good distraction from the rough edges."

"The Star Wars comparisons are ride, but excusable as merely brazen tribute. Mal Reynolds and his titular spacecraft may as well be Han Solo and the Millenium Falcon, and the brother and sister seeking refuge on the Serenity from the evil intergalactic Alliance could be Luke and Leia - all thats missing is a wookie".

"But it is still puzzling that Whedon chose to make this. Given the poor ratings the TV version received, it's a mystery that he thought moviegoers would be happy to part with money to see something they didnt even want to watch for free. Fortunately, for Whedon's career, the result is strong enough, and if he can get enough people through the doors he might just have a lucrative franchise on his hands."

I don't see how River and Simon are just rip-off's of Luke and Leia. Except that they are brother and sister (which we dont even know for ages in Star Wars) they arent really that similar. This review makes Firefly sound like nothing but a cheap rip-off of Star Wars.

There was also quite a few nice things said about Joss in general, so its hard to be too pissed off. And theres a spunky 2-page Joss interview, AND they back cover of the mag is just a big Serenity ad, so they win make some brownie-points there.
