Raiders of the Lost Ark - the Adaptation

Hey, does anyone remember hearing about those 11 yr old kids who decided to make their own version of 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'??? There was a doco mad eabout them and everything. They had several funny stories about making that giant round boulder that nearly squashed Indy at the start of the film when he steals the little golden idol. Oh, how we laughed.

If you live in Melbourne then you'll have perhaps your only chance of ever seeing it on a proper cinema screen next Tuesday. "Screaming wet Jesus, HOW?!?!?" you may ask. Well, here's all the info:

"The best damn fan film ever made...be prepared to be blown away by pure magic.''
- Ain't It Cool News

In 1982 on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi, three young men: Chris Strompolos; Eric Zala and Jayson Lamb decided to remake the biggest summer hit of the season shot by shot, scene for scene...Steven Spielberg's RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK...

They were eleven years old.

Seven years later they finished.

Nearly twenty years after that their Adaptation is re-discovered...

And now after sell-out festival screenings from Texas to Germany that left audiences raving, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK - THE ADAPTATION finally arrives in Australia for an exclusive popcorn taxi event - a never to be repeated screening of the entire film.

After the screening, filmmaker and star CHRIS STROMPOLOS joins us to tell the remarkable story behind the making of this 'ultimate backyard movie', including the details on the filmmakers private meeting with Spielberg, and how art imitating art is now imitating life, with Hollywood developing the kids 'making of' story into a feature film for Paramount Pictures.

Due to strict contractual obligations placed on the film from Raiders copyright owners Lucas Film, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK - THE ADAPTATION has been granted a limited number of festival screenings, where the filmmaker must be in attendance. This will most likely be your only chance to ever see this film.

popcorn taxi would like to thank SHOWFILM, HOYTS and ACMI for their generous support in helping make this program possible.

"Wanted to let you know how impressed I was with your very loving and detailed tribute to our Raiders of the Lost Ark. I saw and appreciated the vast amounts of imagination and originality you put in your film. Again, congratulations. I'll be waiting to see your names someday on the big screen."
-Steven Spielberg

"...a charming delight...the mimicry of Indy's harrowing moments - involving live snakes, actors dangling from moving cars and pyrotechnics - is so often so surprising one wonders whether the filmmakers' mothers knew what they were doing..."
- Variety
