2006 Logies Stuff

Gunning for gold
From: By entertainment editor Andrew Banks
January 24, 2006

FOR the first time in the Logie Awards' 48-year history, the Gold Logie winner will be decided not just by TV Week readers, but by the general public.

After the nominees are announced in April, people will be able to vote for the most popular Australian personality on TV via SMS or 1900 number - without having to buy TV Week - right up until Logies night, which is on May 7.

For the first time in Logie's history it will be trivial for someone to buy the votes necessary for a Gold Logie?
Well, that's what I read.

I can see it now, every TV personality walking the streets with Vote for me placards, kissing hands and shaking babies, or is it shaking hands and kissing babies, as long it's not Rove again, I don't care, maybe it should be John Wood for once

There should be a few new logie categories like: a pitty category, or an it's about bloody time we gave you one, or a logie for long service.

They could call it the Woodsie.

The SHOULD call it the Woodsie and the comedy/light entertainment one could be called the Rove (because he has so many) this would automatically disqualify him from receiving any more awards in this category so any awards Rove may wish to win he would have to move into drama, news/current affair, etc.

Who watched the Logies last night? I didn't.

Did any comedy shows and/or hosts win last night? Who won gold?

(Yes, I could do a news search, but I wanted to hear people's impression. The people on my music board thought it was worst than ever.)

I didn't watch. And of course because I didn't watch, something I would've liked to see was on. ie; Mythbusters.
The winners list is on the TV Week website

I have no idea how it won. I don't have cable, but almost everyone I know does.

Pay-TV shows in the US have been winning Emmys, so I guess it is a new trend.

I thought it was quite bland. Needed a bit of razzle dazzle.
Happy that John Wood and Kate Richie won awards.
Was hoping that Hillsy would get something. His backstage stuff was pretty cool, can't remember much from last year to compare it too. The guy from the chaser was really bugging me all night. I seriously wanted security to kick him out or something. I know it was all fun, but I didn't think it wasn't funny after the second or third time.

The Emmys are peer voted whereas the Logies are voted for by the general public... or at least the general TV Week buying public.
I think the percentage of people with cable in the US is also a lot higher than here.

The foxtel shows only won in the Most Outstanding categories, which are industry voted awards. All the Most Popular ones are the ones the general public vote for and so were won by free to air shows.

Drunk Midget to even Drunker Chick - Have you ever had anyone go up on you before?

Son: Is there anything we can do to get Buffy back?
Mom: Well, we could join together in prayer.
Son: Uh huh. Is there anything useful we can do?
Mom: No.
