Following its 180,000 kilometre journey across 71 Commonwealth nations, the Queen's Baton Relay will finally make its way to the centre of the City, exactly one year and one day since it left Buckingham Palace. Be there to witness this special occasion as the Queen’s Baton makes its way to its final destination – Melbourne. The arrival will signal the commencement of the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games and more importantly, that the City is ready to party. Don’t miss the action-packed street party to celebrate this milestone. The party will feature a FREE public concert hosted by Paul McDermott by some of Australia’s hottest bands and musicians. The line-up includes the always popular Christine Anu, six piece Melbourne jazz/hip hop ensemble True Live, former Hunters and Collectors frontman Mark Seymour, cutting-edge DJ Dexter and chart topping electro-rock group, Rogue Traders. 5.30pm–7.30pm, Corner of Bourke and Elizabeth Streets. Federation Square will also be capturing the action on the big screen.

I went to it for about an hour. It was pretty good, saw Christina Anu and Mark Seymour perform. I though Paul did okay, although he was struggling at times to find things to say in between the performers and also waiting for the baton to come down Bourke street. "It's a baton!" While waiting for the baton to come down and with all the dignatries on stage he did the Bee Gees joke about do they still perfom Staying Alive, which I thought was a bit weird to be doing that joke then, but anyway.

Bah! I go away from the board for a few days, and I miss stuff. I would have actually gone into the city to see this. Not that I give a rat's about the Games, but still...

I was in the city, wandering around. saw they where setting up a concert and thought 'I'm getting as far away from that as I can.' This is what happens when I don't have internet access (for a day or two .)

Sorry I couldn't give you guys more notice, but I had just found out myself. It wasn't really publicised that he'd be hosting it.
