MEDIA RELEASE: If a picture tells a thousand words, then ten pictures couldn’t describe a live performance from this band of vaudevillian misfits. Martin Martini and the Bone Palace Orchestra will brave the chill to bring the dark, molten blend of kinky, olde worlde sounds of their debut album Dream Until You Die to Melbourne’s Spanish Club on Saturday 29 July. Martin Martini and The Bone Palace Orchestra have been making like the Pied Piper: feverishly gathering a cult following for their hardcore fusion of junkyard funk, blues, circus, jazz, waltz, swing and gypsy stylings. The album’s release, marks the end of a busy first year for the band, which saw them play The Famous Spiegel Tent at the Melbourne Arts Festival and Adelaide Fringe Festival; The Adelaide Cabaret Festival and The Studio at The Sydney Opera House, as well as shows at some of Melbourne’s favourite venues. The first seeds of the Bone Palace Orchestra were sown in 2005, when singer and Master of Ceremonies Martin Martini set about getting a band of midgets together. His first applicant was 6’2” trombonist James Macaulay, so Martini ditched the midget band idea and added tuba (Peter Burgess), drums/percussion (Ben Hendry), Clarinet (Sam Dunscombe) and Violin (Xani Kolac) to the mix and Voila: The Bone Palace Orchestra blossomed. The six-piece recorded 13 tracks, written by Martini, in an old, rundown picture theatre in Hawthorn, because the singer believes, “songs don’t belong in recording studios”. “They freak out and sound all clean. Songs can't breath in those places. You take your songs to a picture theatre, douse them in petrol and bourbon, piss on them, beat the shit out of them and then see if they get back up. Then the songs are ready to go,” explains Martini. The fruit of these sessions will be revealed with the independent release of Dream Until You Die this winter. Darkly romantic and moody, the long player was produced by Forrester Savell and mastered by Ross Cockle, at Sing Sing Studio, Melbourne. This band of brooding circus freaks were joined on the album by Eddie Perfect (playing valve radio) and a choir, who according to Martini had their drinks spiked, while he recorded the intoxicating musical results. On the album, Martini sometimes sings through a megaphone songs about moths, a man who puts his family on the stock exchange, a chef going mad and slaughtering people and a love song about drowning your girlfriend. Melbourne painter Karl Persson dreamed up the beautiful cover artwork and his pieces also feature throughout the CD booklet, helping the listener delve deeper into the band’s twisted mindset. Joining them at the Melbourne launch, will be Vulgargrad, thrashing out Russian prison trash hits with singer Jacek Koman (Moulin Rouge, “Roxanne”) at the helm. Politically correct crooner Eddie Perfect will also support. Singer/acoustic guitarist Steve Downie, who punters may recognise from his regular stints busking at Queen Victoria Markets, will open the stage. " Expect to be seduced and appalled in equal measure …" THE AGE “The audience is seduced into an absurd world where people plant plastic flowers in their gardens and water them everyday to keep them clean.” www.theprogram.net.au http://www.myspace.com/martinmartini...alaceorchestra MELBOURNE ALBUM LAUNCH DETAILS: Venue: Melbourne’s Spanish Club, 59-61 Johnston Street, Fitzroy Date: Saturday 29 July Support: Vulgargrad, Eddie Perfect & Steve Downie Tickets: $12, or $25 with CD – available at the door from 8pm

It was a cracker. Quote:
Sample lyrics: "Beethoven went deaf while upping the ante, Death melts like butter down your panties" or perhaps "Forget what's inside my pants, Just take your skin off and dance" Ooh yeah. Love it.
