Transformers - kids flick or not?

Hi all just wanted to know if the new Transformers film rated M is suitable for a child of around 7 years old who is not partial to Harry Potter movies (I think it's a little scary) but likes WWF playstation.

The alternative is Bridge to Terabithia which is rated PG which is my preference. Aparently that has a sad ending though. Looks like word of mouth has not extended itself for this movie as he hadn't heard of it.

Any advice on this one?

It's rather violent. More for those who watched the cartoon as kids. That said, the kids in the cinema seemed to enjoy it, even the little ones.

Speaking of which,

Having seen Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix I can safely say it's not a children's film. Though I did see a few kids of about 8 or 9 in the cinema with their parents.

From the previews of Transformers I'd say that I'd find it rather scary if I was a kid.

Thanks Myth and Sammysatine. I think I'll take the safe road and take him to Bridge of Terabithia as he is my cousin and not his parent I don't want to be responsible for any nightmares. The amount of hours however he spends on WWF playstation is amazing and by now is probably used to violence.

I read a review of Transformers that talks about the movie being quite funny.

I haven't replied yet, that was Munchkin, and erm, no, there's some adult content in Transformers that you probably won't want to explain to a 7 year old. If you're not the parent though I'd do it and tell him to ask his parents. ;p

If he likes WWF (which is called the WWE now, unless he's playing a game about the World Wildlife Fund) he'd probably be able to handle the Transformers. The other issue is that the film goes for nearly 3 hrs. Would he be able to sit through a film that long?

It had BETTER have a sad ending. That was the whole raison d'etre of the entire book. They've messed with it more than enough already but if they tale out the 'sad' ending I'll be really annoyed.

He probably hasn't heard of it because it's a "girl's film".
Dunno if a WWE fan would be all that interested in it, unless he's also a fan of the fantasy genre.

*agrees*

Both movies have things that could possibly need further explanation to a small child. Maybe warn his parents, or tell them what you saw in the movie that might need clarification?

Transformers goes for a bit over 2 hours actually. About 2 hours 14 minutes for the movie.
Just don't let the kid have any sugar and it should be fine?

They don't have to sit still and quiet for that though.
