***Spoilers below*** Maybe I read it too fast, but how does Neville get the sword that he uses to kill Nagini? Thought the goblin took it earlier on, and I have no memory of it reappearing... *edit* I just read that bit for the 4th time, seems it was sorting hat magic. Not sure I agree, but what can ya do? | MOSH Veteran | I read a few theories on this after I went hunting to find people's thoughts on the book after I'd finished. 1. Dumbledore told Harry in CoS only a true Gryffindor could have pulled the sword out of the hat (from the movie, can't remember offhand what the exact phrasing is in the CoS). Therefore we could assume that because Neville knew what he had to do too, faced it with courage and wasn't afraid etc, he too could pull the hat out just like Harry did, because afterall, Neville is a true Gryffindor too. 2. The Goblin had taken the sword from Harry but he'd not been given the sword. The sword knew that the goblin wasn't it's true owner and because of this found a way to returned itself somehow to the hat. Somehow I believe the first one more than the second one.

| MOSH Addict | Direct quote from the book (highlight to read): "In one swift, fluid motion, Neville broke free of the Body-Bind Curse upon him; the flaming Hat fell off him and he drew from its depths something silver, with a glittering, rubied handle -" If it worked for Harry in Chamber of Secrets, I guess it can work for any Gryffindor, regardless of where the sword actually was when it was called from the hat. | ||

Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 3 | Yes, but in the Chamber of Secrets, the hat, phoenix and sword all came from the same place, Dumbledore's office. But must just say: OMG how awesome was that book! Oh, and this could be a really stupid question, but why are there 784 pages in the US book, but only 608 in the UK one? It's quite a big difference. Edit: Ooh, I just found the answer to that (but left it up in case anybody else was wondering)... Arthur Levine, editor of US edition: "They are different trim sizes (how large the book is), they are typeset differently, and our edition has chapter-opening illustrations". The hat functions like a portal, and delivers the sword from wherever it is when it's called for. I really enjoyed most of the book, although I found some sections irritatingly directionless. The three of them in hiding, wandering around the country with no aims or ideas was frustrating. At least in the earlier books, if they weren't making any progress with the main plotline, there were classes to go to and Quidditch to play and other things to keep the story moving. But once that bit was over, and things really started happening, it was fantastic. I was impressed by the complexity of Dumbledore's unfolding plans. And like many other people, I'm sure, I'm quietly proud that I was right in my guesses about why Snape killed Dumbledore, and why Dumbledore trusted him *g* Oh, and I've always thought the "Harry Potter is Satanic" brigade were way off, but after this book I think they need to take another look...there were certain parallels between this and the incredibly Christian "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" that are so far from satanic, it's not funny.

Draco was the master of the Elder Wand because he disarmed Dumbledore before he was killed. Since Dumbledore never reclaimed his wand, and died shortly afterwards, that made the wand Draco's.

| MOSH Regular | Thank you! I thought it might have been from the previous book but wasn't entirely sure I hadn't missed something. I really should have read book 6 again. | ||

| MOSH Veteran | personally I thought the camping/searching for horcruxes part went on a bit too long but for the most part I loved it. I thought it was great that they showed Dumbledore as being not so perfect... Just as flawed as anyone else. And that Kreacher came around and ended up fighting for Harry in the end... | ||

| MOSH Addict | I thought the camping bit went on too long as well. Was good to see Dobby come back and help Was a bit disappointed that one of them wasnt killed off though. Maybe because there has been so much talk about it over the last few months. Yeah I know Fred and Lupin and Tonks died, but I thought maybe Ron or Hermione should have been. *shrugs* just me, but I was slightly disappointed by the ending. ![]() I think the battle is going to look fantastic when they finally make this movie | ||

Reputation: ![]() Reputation Power: 2 | There's 11 deaths in this book.... They're not all people though they are mainly people. This is a great book. Soo much better than Order of the Phoenix. Here's the list of who died if your interested: (if I left anyone out please let me know) I'm putting it in white so it doesn't spoil it for those who have not read it. Hegwig (harry's owl) Mad Eye Moody or Alastor Moody the Auror Rufus Scrimgeour (Minister for Magic) Crabbe Jnr Fred Weasley Remus Lupin Colin Creevey Nymphadora Tonks Lord Voldemort or Tom Marvolo Riddle Severus Snape - very sad oh and here's the list of Horcruxes: Tom Riddle's Diary Marvolo Gaunt's Ring Hufflepuffs Cup Locket Ravenclaws Diadem Nagini Harry Potter I enjoyed the book. I'm abit sad about the deaths. Disappointed that Harry lived. Bugger. Amities, SS Last edited by SammySatine; 25-07-2007 at 05:47 PM.
