Naturally, I checked first before blindly forwarding it, and found out that the UN is not actually asking people to add their name to the list, but regardless, I thought it interesting how many people had already added their names to it. If you do want the UN to say no to a war (or yes) then you need to contact the Australian Government (or the government of whatever country you're a citizen of, for your overseas people) and tell them. :pineappl: Every day for the last week or two we're presented with yet another survey saying that x% of the population supports the war, y% don't support the war and z% want George 'Dubya' Bush burned at the stake. So I thought I'd see what you lot think of this. ![]() I think I covered the main points of view with the survey, but if anyone feels their viewpoint is not represented they can let me know and I'll add it in. Personally, I'm currently sitting on option number 2: I support a war being waged against Iraq if WoMD are discovered to be in his possession, even if the UN does not ratify any action being taken. It's my belief that with such weapons still in his control, it's only a matter of time until Saddam uses them again, and I can see no reason for the rest of the world to sit back and wait for it. I occasionally lean towards option number 1, since it would be best if the UN approved of such a strike, since they will look at all factors and decide whether or not it is warranted - it would also mean that any future aggression by Iraq after a failure to act by the UN would hopefully be a good lesson for them. Additionally, if the action was sanctioned by the UN, the chances of other countries becoming involved on the side of Iraq are much smaller, making the chance of a new world war far more remote. Anyway, I'm rambling. Vote now!

i put yes only with UN sanction. because if george bush oversteps the UN once he'll feel he can do it again and the organisation will basically be useless, and america will rule everything. i don't want to go to war but i think that if the UN have said yes first then there will have to be a just cause for it, so we won't really have much choice between invading and being invaded.

I think we should just stop all the fighting, why can't we all be friends and live together in peace and harmony..... Ooohhh I've got to stop smoking dope I'm turning into a hippy. But seriously, why do we need to fight, I like explosions and guns and stuff, these things should be used in a more social setting for for killing each other.

I was very much against the war on Iraq, until I had a conversation about it with my brother - who's enjoying a semester over in Malaysia - and he told me about an Iraqi him and his German lady friend ran into during one of the religious festivals, and all being world politics students they began talking about this impending war, and my brother and his friend were all against it and very anti-Bush and all, and then the Iraqi says that he wants there to be a war, because Suddam Hussein is such an evil prick. This poor guy was in Malaysia to get away from all that crap, and the rest of his family was spread throughout New Zealand and they weren't going to be able to go back home until they knew it would be safe for them there. In Iraq the general opinion is that Suddam is worse than Hitler. And while I reckon America's only going there for the oil, and to screw Iraq over, I can't help but think that maybe it is a good idea for them to get rid of the despot. Here in Australia we only get fed half the facts, and my opinion’s in turmoil now I've heard some of what we don't get told.

there's really no good reason to go around killing anybody though, especially making war on an entire country just because their leader is a wanker. Because in the event of war, its not very likely that saddam hussein is going to be the first one they kill. America will probably go around bombing civilians first.

will getting rid of one person with the consequence of killing housands of innocent people really solve everything/anything. I highly doubt it. We need to find some other way apart from war to make things right. I naive view i know but it will have to happen eventually because the same arguments for every war we have in the future will keep cropping up and we'll just end up running around in circles.

It's not that he's simply a wanker. Saddam Hussein is a genocidal wanker.

Yeah, cos all of the people that are up to no good would hide in their everything-proof bunkers as civilians perish as a consequence of our allies' actions.
