Heh heh...science fiction has always inspired real science. And it's been known to predict future advances before. Televisions, telephones, cars, early rockets...read some old sci-fi and you might be surprised.

It's just amusing that it's Star Trek this time *G*

mobile phones, palm pilots, medical imaging technology. Star Trek connected technology is all over the place, it just so happened that they reported on this one in the main stream media.

Ion propulsion is old news, now. Been around for a couple of years at least.

When the time comes to activate the engines, do you think the person giving the order will say to the person that will actually activate the engines an order like:

"Full impulse"?

I've been thinking (again, sorry).

"(Person's title and name) Set a course for the moon. Full impulse. Engage" *makes pointing gesture*
